Hi Everyone,
It's with great pleasure that I'm welcoming everyone to my blog and I hope you're all doing well and enjoying your weekend. I will like to share with you some vital informations and lesson learnt regarding my broilers bird and the just concluding batch.
If you have been following my blog for a while then you would have seen my different blogs about my poultry farm business and my focus is raising broiler birds for some weeks and sell them off.
I love to be my own boss and since no one is calling for service regarding my profession which is plumber and I think it's due to the how the situation of my country has been so this turned me into a full hivers. But as a family man that has so many responsibilities to take care of, then I think it's best to have an offline business to support my finance and that's why I become a poultry farmer.
Poultry farm business is a lucrative one if it's done in a right way and it is possible to earn your profits in a short period of time especially if you venturing into raising broilersbird like me and unlike layers bird which could take a long time before you started earning your profits. I believe that the reason why I chose to start poultry farm business especially broilers bird is due to lucrative it is including getting profits in a short time.
But despite how lucrative raising broilers bird may be, I want you to understand that there is no business with it's own challenges or problems as every business has its own risk and this is what you must have known before starting a business.
I started broilersbird business some months ago and my first batch was a success as no mortality rate was recorded and I was able to make a little profits which I believe is good for a starter. But the second batch of my broilersbird business was like a hell due to some reasons which I will be explaining below.
Like I said earlier that no business is without risks but the earlier you prepared for it the better. But regarding the situation I found myself about my poultry farm business I couldn't see it coming as the challenges comes to me as shock.
I once discussed in one of my blog regarding broilersbird that keeping it for a long time is a waste of resources and not profitable and that's the situation I recently found myself.
It happens that the big scaly poultry farm including small scale poultry farm business like me sold our birds at the same time during my first batch and the market is still doing well at that time. So the problem started when I want to order my day old broiler chicks, it got delayed for like two weeks before I could bring in my day old broiler chicks and this is caused by the big scale poultry farm because of the large amount of a day old broiler bird chicks they are ordering for.
That's gone like that as my day old broiler chicks later arrived at my pen but the big problem started when my birds reach six weeks because my target is to raise them for six weeks and sell them off since I don't have any reason to hold on to them.
The pressure to keep feeding the birds is becoming unbearable because I don't have any other options than to continue feeding since I couldn't sell them off when they reach six weeks. Though marketing is probably the biggest challenges in raising broiler birds and it's not that I don't do my marketing even though I also depends on some of friends who also are in to poultry farm business but we all have to go through this challenges and feel the pressure as well but my own situation is a little bit different because they were able to sort out their own while am still at it.
At some point, me and my wife have to continue the broilersbird marketing as we go from one place to another but still the same old story. At some point I was fed up because my initial budget was to raise them from a day old chicks to six weeks old and that's my budget and I have calculated the amount of feeds which will be required for that certain period.
The pressure started mounting the more I hold on to them because I wasn't able to sold them off. And one thing about broilersbird is that, the more they keep growing then the more their appetite for feeding keep increasing and the worse thing is that they won't even gain more weight as their feeding consumption increase because they have already passed through that stage.
I tried all possible best to sell them off but couldn't find any means so I keep buying more feeds and feeding them. At that point I knew that the feeding won't have great effect on them but I understand that's the best way to keep maintaining their weight or else they will lose weight and no profits will be left for me by the time I sold them even though, I pretty much knew that holding on to them and continue feeding them is a waste of resources and not profitable because I don't have any other options.
This goes like that till the birds reach eleventh weeks old compared to six weeks old which I have already budgeted. This means I have to hold on to them and continue feeding them for additional five weeks which I would I used for another batch of broilers bird. And there is no profits left for me at the end of the day though I am happy that I was able to recover all my expenses.
