I have a sweet memory from my childhood. I was at a camp and we had some time off. In one of the common rooms, I discovered a book named Where's Waldo. I was just sipped into the book and I spent hours looking through the pages of the book trying to find Waldo and his friends.
Then 20 years passed by... I got my own kids... and suddenly I remembered the Waldo books. And suddenly, I bought all seven (or was it eight) books in the series.
What is Where's Waldo all about?
First of all, I had some trouble finding it at first. Because, when I read the book, it was translated to Where's Willy, so they called him Willy and not Waldo. I don't know what his name might be at your location, but you will for sure find him if you look hard enough.
Because that is what it is all about. In each book, you will find 10-15 double pages where some sort of story takes place. And at each page there are lots of stuff hidden. There are five main characters that you can find, and then there are lots of extras. It might sound easy, but if you want to finish a book, you will for sure need some hours. And if you even do the extras, then you should be able to travel from Sicily to Bremen, and still have things worth looking for.
If you want to have even more fun, then you should sit down with your kids and look together with them. I have done it myself, and then it turns into a challenge as well... who can find Willy, the Wizard, the thief, or the tail of the dog first? Your kids will love it, and I have a feeling, so will you!
This is a real treat!
In other words, if you want a real treat for the entire family, go ahead and buy one or more books in the Where's Waldo series. It is great and entertaining, and if you even want to, then you can use the events in the pictures to tell your children about the background (I just looked at a page showing the Colosseum in Rome), meaning that you can have a little history lesson as well along the way!
Have you ever enjoyed the Where's Waldo books? Or do you have some other similar favorite?
