Los profesores universitarios en Venezuela enfrentan desde hace varios años una grave crisis que afecta su estatus económico, al devengar salarios de entre $6 a $9 dólares mensuales, este último para docentes de la máxima categoría y dedicación exclusiva, lo cual es insuficiente para cubrir sus necesidades primordiales, cuando la canasta básica ronda los $400 dólares.
Situación que fue catalogada, en entrevista para mí equipo de trabajo, como injusta e insostenible por la presidenta de la Asociación de Profesores de la Universidad del Zulia (APUZ), Molly González, “el salario de los académicos no cumple con los estándares internacionales al estar numéricamente muy por debajo de lo que se denomina salario y no hay respuesta jurídica favorable al ser un país sin estado de derecho”.
Los docentes han tenido que recurrir a la economía informal o al libre ejercicio de su profesión para obtener ingresos extras que les permitan resolver sus carencias, abandonando así las aulas en muchos casos. Por otro lado, se han registrado denuncias de jubilados que están presentado cuadros de desnutrición severa.
Derechos laborales desprotegidos
La presidenta de APUZ, señaló que los derechos laborales del gremio están completamente desprotegidos al no haber discusiones laborales con la Federación de Asociaciones de Profesores Universitarios de Venezuela (FAPUV).
“El gobierno ha decidido mantener una relación unilateral donde el mismo impone las reglas del juego y esas reglas son totalmente desfavorables, ni siquiera cumplen los acuerdos laborales que ellos mismos elaboran” condenó González.
Lo cual se traduce en que no hay garantías sociales ni de ningún tipo, presentándose una severa afectación emocional. “Ahora mismo todos los profesores de las universidades venezolanas están sumamente estresados sin poder resolver su vida, sin poder avanzar y sin atención médica”.
Educación de calidad desmoronada
Ante las altas necesidades que padece el gremio, la función del docente ha mermado, el estado de vulnerabilidad en el que se encuentran ha afectado a la educación de calidad no únicamente desde el ejercicio profesional sino también en torno al estado general de las instituciones en cuanto a infraestructura, presupuesto y sueldo. Siendo imposible ofrecer educación de calidad en un contexto de este tipo.
¿Qué le espera a un profesor universitario?
A juicio de la Presidenta de FAVUP, el docente que tenga hijos profesionales fuera del país le espera sobrevivir lejos de su familia y el que no los tenga inevitablemente le espera la muerte en unas condiciones no aptas. “Suena dura pero si los profesores no pueden cubrir sus necesidades básicas, no hay garantías de seguridad social, ni de defensa de derechos laborales no se puede esperar otra cosa” lamentó González.

**Unprotected labor rights
The president of APUZ, pointed out that the labor rights of the union are completely unprotected as there are no labor discussions with the Federation of Associations of University Professors of Venezuela (FAPUV).
"The government has decided to maintain a unilateral relationship where the government itself imposes the rules of the game and those rules are totally unfavorable, they do not even comply with the labor agreements that they themselves draw up" condemned Gonzalez.
This means that there are no social guarantees or guarantees of any kind, resulting in severe emotional distress. "Right now all professors in Venezuelan universities are extremely stressed without being able to solve their lives, without being able to advance and without medical attention."
Crumbling quality education.
Faced with the high needs suffered by the guild, the role of teachers has diminished, the state of vulnerability in which they find themselves has affected quality education not only from the professional practice but also around the general state of the institutions in terms of infrastructure, budget and salary. It is impossible to offer quality education in such a context.
**What awaits a university professor?
In the opinion of the President of FAVUP, the teacher who has professional children outside the country will have to survive far from his or her family and those who do not will inevitably have to die in unsuitable conditions. "It sounds harsh but if teachers cannot cover their basic needs, there are no guarantees of social security, nor defense of labor rights one cannot expect anything else" lamented González.
