Los nervios de punta aparecen hoy. Tenemos concierto con invitados especiales y esto, por supuesto, nos pone un poquito tensos. Aunque estemos acostumbrados a las presentaciones, cada una es distinta y tiene un grado de complejidad diferente; en cada evento se presentan situaciones nuevas que nos ponen en perspectiva a los profesores y directores. Queremos que todo salga excelente, que lo disfrutemos al máximo y que los niños también lo vivan con alegría, pues es el momento de mostrar nuestro trabajo.
We’re really nervous today. We have a concert with special guests, and that, of course, makes us a little tense. Even though we’re used to performing, every show is different and has its own level of complexity; at every event, new situations arise that make us teachers and conductors rethink things. We want everything to go perfectly, for us to enjoy it to the fullest, and for the children to experience it with joy as well, since this is the moment to showcase our work.
El último ensayo es, posiblemente, el más decisivo. Es el momento de concretar ajustes, canalizar eventualidades y transmitir a los niños la energía necesaria para la presentación. Aunque suele ser el bloque más exigente de toda la preparación, es donde realmente pulimos el resultado final. Ayer, por ejemplo, colocamos las gradas hacia el lado de afuera para que los niños se familiarizaran con el ruido exterior. En el salón solo estamos nosotros, pero en un concierto real, factores como el tráfico o el llanto de un bebé impiden que haya silencio absoluto. Para mí es fundamental que practiquen con estos agentes distractores, pues la concentración bajo presión es lo que nos da certeza sobre cómo reaccionarán en el escenario.
The final rehearsal is, perhaps, the most crucial one. It’s time to make final adjustments, address any unforeseen issues, and instill in the children the energy they’ll need for the performance. Although it’s usually the most demanding part of the entire preparation process, it’s where we really polish the final result. Yesterday, for example, we set up the bleachers facing the outside so the children could get used to outside noise. In the rehearsal room, it’s just us, but at a real concert, factors like traffic or a baby crying prevent there from being absolute silence. For me, it’s essential that they practice with these distractions, because staying focused under pressure is what gives us confidence in how they’ll react on stage.
Ayer fue un ensayo intenso. Trabajamos con los cuarenta niños de iniciación y con los integrantes de la banda rítmica. Es interesante notar la diferencia: mientras que los más grandes ya tienen una disciplina consolidada y manejan el nerviosismo con naturalidad, el grupo de iniciación requiere una atención, disciplina y presencia mucho más constante. Esa madurez escénica no se logra de la noche a la mañana. Espero que hoy el concierto salga maravilloso y sea el reflejo de lo que hacemos cada día. Cuando se trabaja con amor y colocando a Dios por delante, todo sale bien y, sobre todo, se disfruta.
Yesterday was an intense rehearsal. We worked with the forty beginners and the members of the rhythm section. It’s interesting to note the difference: while the older students already have a solid sense of discipline and handle nervousness naturally, the beginners require much more consistent attention, discipline, and focus. That kind of stage presence isn’t achieved overnight. I hope today’s concert turns out wonderfully and reflects what we do every day. When you work with love and put God first, everything goes well and, above all, you enjoy it.
