I have a nandina, which is said to be a tree of good luck, growing in front of my front door, but I don't know where the seeds flew from, but about two years ago, a weed called Stinkvine started growing and tangling with the nandina. The flowers are pretty, but it is a very smelly grass. In the summer, it was so strong that it was twining around the nandina, so I cut it down once. However, it was too tangled and I could not get rid of it.
自宅の玄関前には縁起のいい木と言われるナンテンが生えているのですが、どこから種が飛んできたのか、2年ぐらい前からヘクソカズラが生えてきてナンテンに絡みつくようになりました。ヘクソカズラとは花は可愛いですがすごく臭い草です。夏場はナンテンをぐるぐる巻きにするほどの勢いだったので一度ヘクソカズラを切り刻んだのです。しかしあまりにも絡まっていたため駆除しきれませんでした。

ところが先日、ネットでヘクソカズラでリースが作れるという情報を得ました。結構色々な情報が見つかったため、ご存じの方もおられるかもしれませんが。ヘクソカズラは冬になると茶色の実をつけます。その頃になるともう臭くありません。自分の鼻で確かめました。
I usually don't make wreaths at all and don't decorate them, but I struggled a bit to try if weeds can be made into wreaths.
私はいつもはリースなんて全く作らないし飾りもしない人間なのですが、雑草がリースになるならちょっとやってみるかと悪戦苦闘しました。
(1) I picked up some dead weeds. I picked one that was full of berries. It is better to cut the vines a little longer. Remove the dead leaves.
(1)枯れていたヘクソカズラを採ってきました。実がいっぱいついているものを採ります。つるは少し長めに切った方がいいでしょう。枯れた葉は取ります。
(2) I connected the vines to make a round shape. Well, it is a little lonely.
(2)つるをつないで丸くしてみました。うーん、ちょっと寂しいですね。
(3) I picked up some more of the cattails. This one was still a little green, but the fruit was ripe and did not smell bad, so I decided to use it.
(3)ヘクソカズラをもう少し採ってきました。こちらは枯れきってないのか少し緑色が残っていましたが、実が熟していて臭くなかったので使うことにします。
(4)I also picked up some thick vines near the base of the hexocazula. I rounded it up. You can roll it by hand.
(4)さらにヘクソカズラの根元に近い太いつるも採ってきました。これを丸めます。手で丸められます。
(5) Wrap the vine with the fruit around (4). The wreath is now complete.
I think the wreath is modest, but it is full of wild taste.
(5)(4)に実のついたつるを巻き付けます。これでリースの出来上がりです。
地味ですが野趣に富んだリースになったと思います。
In fact, I wanted to have more berries, but the berries are falling down.
However, I think it is suitable for making a wreath easily because it grows in the fields and even in vacant lots.
Incidentally, nandina is said to be a difficult material to handle, as its fruits fall off when it dries up.
There are other wild plants that can be used for handcrafting, so it would be good to incorporate them into handmade products.
本当は、もっと実を多くしたかったんですが、実がぽろぽろ落ちるのが難点です。
でも、ヘクソカズラは野山からそのへんの空き地にでも生えているので、手軽にリースを作るのに適していると思います。
ちなみにナンテンは乾いてしまうとバラバラと実が落ちるそうで、扱いにくい素材だそうですが工夫次第で何か作れるのではないでしょうか。
ほかにも野生植物には手づくりに使える植物がありますので、ハンドメイド作品などに取り入れてみるといいと思います。
