Click above to play the music video: Here is our 2021 SAMHAIN HALLOWEEN MUSIC SPECIAL
Oh we are now in the dark half of the year (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) and days get shorter and darker. This is "spooktober", the season of the witch. Samhain (Halloween, all Hallow's Eve) is drawing near and the veil between the living and the Otherworld is thinning (or so tells the legends). As every year I make seasonal eerie specials, being this the first of hopefully two "spectral specials"
The special was filmed in an abandoned place I visit often, and as I have been hiking regularly up there since August I've witnessed the days getting shorter and darker. But remember, that even in the dim part of the year, the light is never truely gone.
As this is the spooky season I wanted to explore though my ghost side, so let me use this strange original lullaby to set up the mood, come and walk with me in the darkness. Follow the lingering light.
Unlock the mystery of this flickering candle... sometimes there are "things" that linger, "things" that acquire a presence
Hope you find it strange and atmospheric.
The Lingering Light
Follow the Lingering Light
It will guide you through the darkness
Know that I'm still here
Always
Blessed Samhain
Legends say the veil between the Living and the Otherworld becomes very thin during Samhain. Many rituals to honour our ancestors include the use of candles.
The magic of candlelight
If you let darkness enfold you and focus on the flickering candle you might see through the tear between the two worlds. It is often said that if you stare into the flame while the veil is think you can see trough the torn veil especially on magical dates like Halloween :). But careful, let the candle burn completely, or so it's said, and remember (spooly echoing voice) some lights refuse to die away. (Ominous music)
Dim or flickering but never extinguished
Some lights cannot be extinguished, they may be dim, they might flicker, but they never extinguish. Their glow lingers in the darkness like a whispering echo that unlocks a hidden secret. They linger... like those ghosts that refuse to leave. This is a very spectral lullaby. What's your interpretation of this one? Let me know in the comments
Find the hidden rats (3 rats and a mouse) "Fufunchis" in the video
As always find "fufunchis" in the video. If you follow my blog here you know I always hide them in the videos and they are the little startlets. Did you spot them all? There are 4 to be found. I must say that due to the video being dark this one is quite a challenge. This Summer I also rescued a mouse and now he genuinely lives in that castle. I go every couple of days to visit him and he's still thriving and co mes to my call. We have indeed a special bond and for that also this video is special to me.
History of the filming location: The Abandoned Village of Guenduláin
Located in Navarra, Spain. Guenduláin is an abandoned village along Saint James' Way (Pilgrims Way from France to Galicia). The village was completely abandoned in 1970. Among the current ruins we highlight a fifteenth century medieval Castle and a seventeenth century church. Despite having been declared Historical and Cultural Heritage the place is very unknown and rarely visited and in total abandonment.

Both buildings though have suffered the vandalism and are slowly crumbling down while vegetation growns in the insides of the structures and vines climb the arches and columns.

Jerónimo de Ayanz y Beaumont (1553-1613) was born a Spanish soldier, painter, astronomer, musician and inventor. He is best remembered for the invention of a steam-powered water pump for draining mines for which he was granted a patent by the Spanish monarchy. His inventions also improved windmills, furnaces for metallurgy and industry and he even invented a bell-like diving suit and designed a submarine.
King Felipe VI bestowed a noble title and declared Guendulain as County, but the title was inherited by his daughter as he died before it became effective.
An abandoned cemetery too (which I found when researching for this article)
I think the place at night was eerie enough but this was a discovery when I started to delve into the history of the place.
And this is something I just knew recently while I was doing research about the place. A place I've been in countless times as I enjoy to come up here to sit and enjoy the darkening of the day.
The whole place has definitely an eerie strange vibe at dusk and it was kind of an experience to walk its walls spinning my bull-roarer (an instrument used to keep evil spirits at bay in many cultures) and by candle light (which is said helps to see between worlds when the veil gets thin, as in Halloween)
Of course there is a lot of myth and legend around the place, but it does feel peaceful.
There is a beautiful pond nearby that now reflects all the colours of Autumn, and then an winding path full of nettles and thorns that suddenly open unfolding a clear view of the ruins. You could easily imagine the spirits walking the place when night falls.
I had already filmed another video in this very same place "My point being" some time ago, though by daylight it looks different. Still if curious, this was the hive post

Follow the Lingering Light
So
Or maybe a flickering light...
would you follow it to unlock the mystery?
As always there are hidden rats in the video
But this time it's very difficult as the video is filmed in lowlight literally by the light of one single candle. But believe me Fievel the Mouse, and fufunchis the rats (all four) are there. If you spot any let me know in comments. I may share a gif later on as proof they are there. LOL

"My creepy lullabies" is a playlist that compiles all the dark specials that I've done. I have to say that my dark music is always less noticed, more invisible like a ghost... so grateful if you visit the channel and drop some encouraging feedback
