One of the phenomena that has persisted for years in the labor field and that undoubtedly remains in force, having a significant impact on business development is mobbing or harassment at work, since it directly affects the overall performance of workers, the achievement of goals and organizational planning. Epistemologically, the term mobbing means 'to besiege', 'to harass', 'to corner in group', it is both the action of a harasser or several harassers leading to produce fear, terror, contempt or discouragement in the affected worker towards his work, and the effect or disease it produces in the worker. Paradoxically, in many organizations of the different economic sectors, whether public or private, these scenarios occur with considerable frequency nowadays on a worldwide scale, to the point that it is attributed to an influential phenomenon of globalization
Within the framework of the previous premise, it is specified that over the years organizations have made efforts to establish policies and plans that help their growth, as well as the development of activities that are required to reduce the effects generated by the mentioned phenomenon. The increase of mobbing in organizations worldwide is so relevant that governments have been concerned about reinforcing their policies in this matter in order to face the scourge. In this sense, according to the International Labor Office (OIT) (1998), the outbreaks of psychological abuse that occur in workplaces around the world, beyond the borders of each country, it affects the different areas or occupations in the labor field, mentioning some as: transport companies (cab drivers) executive staff, teaching, social workers, domestic services among others, covering private and public companies in general.
Recent studies consider that this harm is mostly considered in women because their occupations are more exposed, both workers and employees say that psychological aggression (intimidation and harassment) are becoming more and more serious. In this regard, the OIT (1994) notes that a large number of public sector workers in Canada suffer verbal aggression as one of the main forms of mobbing in the workplace. In recent years, there have been background studies on this problem in the labor field, which show results on psychological violence and its consequences on the individual, giving way to behaviors such as: intimidation, bullying and harassment.
Starting from the conceptualization of the word work, Chiavenato (2000) defines work as "Employment, occupation, etc. as a source of personal income". Similarly, he also defines it as "The application of physical or mental effort to a purpose". As the activity performed by man in order to subsist within the social environment he inhabits to achieve a purpose; so it is essential to ensure their welfare within companies or organizations as the worker depends on the growth and development of the same.
Although for many people work is considered a sacrifice, for others it is an occupation or a source of income that allows them to fulfill their personal objectives through the satisfaction of their needs. Now, all of this is based on the fact that with the passage of time the demand and the accelerated growth of the work that suffer greater demands and competencies of the individual within the labor field, The presence of mobbing at work involves a high percentage of women, since they are considered weak and vulnerable in the face of the macho society, which has undoubtedly been the protagonist of this phenomenon, but this does not mean that men are exempt, since they are also exposed to it.
