A Field in Winter.

The last days we spent in Germany were full of winter beauty. I already did one post about it, with pictures around the house. This one focuses more on the fields a little up the road, the motives that I found there to have fun with the camera.

I'm finally back in Ecuador, after the snow delayed us for 5 days which we enjoyed to the fullest. Since then, I've been taking a lot of pictures, and since my new cellphone (read a full review here) is still fascinating, I'm looking for motives all over the place. Everywhere. Always. Both for color as well as B/W.

I don't want to be one of those who take pictures and then turn them into B/W to make them look interesting, but my goal is to develop an eye to what could work as B/W and what not, and then what could do as both. Please feel free to give honest and direct feedback, on what could I do better! Thank you very much.

The Field

F1 I placed the died plant in the right middle to maintain the general structure of the rows and the almost aligned horizon. In the middle, it would've disturbed.

F1.1 It disappears in the BW, as the green is gone. Still, it makes an important part of the picture. In BW, the little snow dunes jump out a lot more.

The Tree

T1 I went out to take pictures of the snow being blown over the ridge. Almost froze my fingers off.

T1.1 I took this picture for BW because of the natural contrast between the white snow and the dark trees, full of structures that I thought would stick out. They did.

T2 This one was about capturing the snow dust. I wanted to see how it works in BW, but also play around with other parameters.

Not 100% B/W, but close. Tried to put "Sharpness" to the max to see the snow, and quite a bit of contrast. Still, one has to look closely.

In the 100% BW the snow dust is a lot easier to see.

The Village

V1 Turning around on the field, I noticed the church tower sticking out behind all the trees.

V1.1 Perfect. Since many of the houses are built in the old northern village style, with reed roofs, they make the perfect illusion of a century old picture. I could make it more sepia I guess, to give it even more of that feeling.

Out of the Window

W1 - I had taken a picture of this before, but this time I got it a lot better as the window wasn't too full of water drops yet.

This picture was used in a post of a friend of mine, for his novel "The Man with the Luminous Eyes"

The 4th Chapter with the Picture

The first chapter - highly recommended!

W 1.1 - It works perfectly for the novel, as it plays within a winter setting.
