| Even though there are issues that preoccupy many of us 24 hours a day more than the climate, it is important to act now. A few days ago, a temperature record was set at the polar ice caps that makes you shiver. 30 degrees above the previous record on one particular day. If something like that were to happen here in Germany, instead of 0 degrees in winter we would have 30 degrees +, or in summer at 40 degrees we would have 70 degrees plus. No one could survive that. | Auch wenn es gerade Themen gibt, die viele von uns 24 Stunden am Tag mehr beschäftigen, als das Klima, ist es gerade jetzt wichtig, zu handeln. Vor ein paar Tagen ist an den Polarkappen ein Temperaturrekord aufgestellt worden, der einen erschaudern lässt. 30 Grad über dem bisherigen Rekord an einem bestimmten Tag. Wenn sowas hier in Deutschland passieren würde, hätten wir statt im Winter 0 Grad mal eben 30 Grad +, oder im Sommer bei 40 Grad mal kurz 70 Grad plus. Da kann keiner überleben. |
| We talk about how we can become energy independent from countries like Russia and that leads us, instead of using less energy, into the hands of countries like Qatar. Learning is different. Almost all scientists who deal with this topic of climate and its consequences warn us to continue in this way. But unfortunately, it is people who want more and more prosperity who make the decisions. Faster, bigger, louder and more restrictions are not acceptable. Others should do that. But who? | Wir reden davon, wie wir uns Energietechnisch unabhängig machen können von Ländern wie Russland und das führt uns dazu, statt weniger Energie zu verbrauchen, in die Hände von Ländern wie Katar. Lernen geht anders. So gut wie alle Wissenschaftler, die sich mit diesem Thema Klima und ihren Folgen beschäftigen, warnen uns so weiter zu machen. Aber entscheiden tun das leider Menschen, die immer mehr Wohlstand wollen. Schneller, größer, lauter und einschränken ist nicht. Das sollen andere machen. Aber wer? |

Brauchen tut diese Jacht aber an 95% des Jahres aber keiner. |
| People often ask me why I am so involved in this climate issue, and then so vehemently. After all, I am self-employed, have a relatively secure future, and I don't have any children to take care of. | Oft werde ich gefragt, warum ich mich den in diesem Klimading so engagiere, und dann auch noch so vehement. Ich sei doch selbständig, habe eine relativ gesicherte Zukunft, und Kinder, für die ich mich sorgen müsste, habe ich auch nicht. |

| The stupid thing is that everything is already changing. The diversity of species is decreasing. I will no longer have the chance to see a kiwi (New Zealand bird) live in the wild, I will probably never again be able to ski on untracked non-artificial snow in the Allgäu, I will no longer be able to get my garden to even begin to bloom without weekly artificial watering, I will never again be able to lie in the sun in summer without sunblock with at least 50+, I will have to live with tornadoes passing through our area. Do I have to worry about that? | Das dumme ist, es ist ja jetzt schon so, dass sich alles verändert. Die Artenvielfalt nimmt ab. Ich werde keine Chance mehr haben, einen Kiwi (Vogel New Zealand) live in freier Wildbahn zu sehen, ich werde wohl nie mehr auf unbeschneiten nicht künstlichem Schnee im Allgäu Skifahren können, ich werde es nicht mehr schaffen, meinen Garten ohne wöchentliche künstliche Bewässerung auch nur ansatzweise zum blühen zu bringen, im Sommer kann ich nie wieder ohne Sunblocker mit mindestens 50+ in der Sonne liegen, ich muss damit leben, dass Tornados in unserer Gegend durchziehen. Muss ich mir deshalb Sorgen machen? |
| Yes. I am not alone in this world. And neither are we humans. When I think of polar bears who can't find anything to eat because their hunting grounds are gone, when I go diving and see nothing but grey dead coral with a single small fish hovering over it next to a plastic bag looking for non-existent food, or panda bears who are only allowed to survive because they bring a lot of money to the country they come from by renting out the last not really free animals of this species to zoos all over the world, then I worry. Not about me, but about almost everything else. | Ja. Ich bin nicht alleine auf dieser Welt. Und wir Menschen sind es auch nicht. Wenn ich an Eisbären denke, die nichts mehr zum Fressen finden, da ihr Jagdrevier nicht mehr vorhanden ist, wenn ich beim Tauchen nur noch graue tote Korallen sehe über denen neben einer Plastiktüte ein einzelner kleiner Fisch schwebt, der nach nicht vorhandener Nahrung sucht oder Panda Bären, die eigentlich nur überleben dürfen, weil sie dem Land aus dem sie kommen viel Geld bringen, in dem sie die letzten nicht wirklich freien Tiere dieser Art in Zoos auf der ganzen Welt vermieten, dann mache ich mir sorgen. Nicht um mich aber über fast alles andere. |
| And since we as individuals cannot really make a difference, it is important on days like tomorrow's global climate strike day to send a signal that there is more at stake here than generating as much luxury as possible. Only many people can do something like this at once. | Und nachdem wir als einzelne nicht wirklich was bewegen können, ist es wichtig an Tagen wie dem Morgigen globalen Klimastreik Tag, ein Zeichen zu setzten, dass es hier um mehr geht als möglichst viel Luxus zu generieren. Sowas können nur viele auf einmal machen. |

| With the Paris Climate Agreement, we once set a marker that we wanted to achieve. Let's be honest, it was already clear back then that this goal was not enough. Not even close. But since something had to be decided to calm down these stupid sceptics, scientists and environmentalists, a target was set that could very probably be achieved with a little effort that didn't really hurt. At least that's what the business community signed up to at the time. Even this minimal goal, which would not really have been a desirable goal, has not been achieved. | Wir haben mit dem Pariser Klimaabkommen mal eine Marke gesetzt, die wir erreichen wollten. Mal ganz ehrlich, damals war schon klar, dass dieses Ziel nicht genug ist. Noch nicht mal im Ansatz. Aber nachdem ja irgendetwas beschlossen werden musste, um diese blöden Skeptiker, Wissenschaftler und Umweltschützer zu beruhigen, hat man ein Ziel genommen, was man sehr wahrscheinlich mit ein bisschen Anstrengung die nicht wirklich weht tut erreichen konnte. Zumindest hat das damals auch die Wirtschaft unterschrieben. Selbst dieses Minimal Ziel, was nicht wirklich ein wünschenswertes Ziel gewesen wäre, ist nicht erreicht worden. |
