A few weeks ago, my second son lost his last tooth. We usually give our kids something small for losing their teeth. I asked him if he wanted to pick something out at the dollar store, something from the Amazon returns store, if he wanted me to pick something out for him, or (jokingly) if he wanted a duck. Well, you can guess what he said he wanted! 😂
So that is the story of how we ended up with two not-quite-ducklings. They seem to be a few weeks old and we have had them now for a few weeks. I was told they were a male and female pair, with the male being the larger one. I have checked multiple times, but, to me, they both look female. I'm okay with that, since we would eat the eggs. I plan to get a few more ducks as soon as I can find some. These are Pekin ducks.
It started pouring today. We know very little about ducks, but we have learned some stuff, and apparently, they love cold, rainy weather - perfect for our Panamanian mountain town in rainy season! We decided to see how they would respond.
They had a blast running around in the yard. They found a nice little puddle to "swim" in, a broken downspout to take a shower in, and plenty of water to drink. The bigger one was jumping around flapping her wings and running in circles around her friend. It was adorable!
We then took them over to the tub we water the cow with and let them swim around. They swam and swam! We took advantage of them being busy and washed out the crate we keep them in. They loved getting to play in the pouring rain!
All in all, it rained about an inch today. Our plants appreciate all the rain since rainy season is just getting started!
