Greetings to the farm-minded community. My venture with Japanese quails is evolving well. I have now bought 8 more quail which together with the 6 I already had are making a total of 14 quail.
I'm learning about them, their characteristics, habits, and many other things by watching many videos online. I now know that they can change the color of their eggs just by stressing. This is how the new quails that have arrived after having a considerable period of 6 months of egg laying have been stressed with the transfer to my cages and have laid white eggs.
There have been two white eggs but the other one was not lucky and they have broken it with their nervous movements. By the time I got to the cage he was already trampled and there was nothing I could do.
I have learned that both males and females have different sounds. I already recognize the females singing because they resemble the sound of froglets in water holes. The male has a louder sound and I have read that it is a song to stimulate the female to lay her eggs.
The physical characteristics of each are also different. The female quail is larger than the male and has feathers dotted with dark and light brown. While the male does not have dotted feathers but has a beige breast. It is like dirty white.
I like my quails. For next week I have ordered a cage to have more space for the next purchases. I already have an egg laying about 8 eggs per day. Because still several of the younger quail have not wanted to lay. This is about following up on the behavior of the female quails before laying.
All quail are eating the same food. Only 8 of the 11 females are laying their eggs. So for the time they already have they do not have good genetics for laying. Having my new cage what I will do next is buy the incubator and lay about 20 fertile eggs to have my generation of good-laying quail.
I will continue to learn about them and will be happy to communicate my progress to you. I hope you enjoy my publication.
