As promised, I will show you my poultry family. After hugging my hogs, he we go! We will be exploring my hidden chicken family! We, I and my husband are raising native chickens.
We divided the area into two.One area is for the breeders and the other is for the nursery and growing chickens.
Meet the breeders! Currently, they are all laying eggs. More or less there are 17 Mama hens and 3 roosters in the breeder's pen.
They are nesting Mama hens. I can't capture them all. More or less at the moment they 7-8 hens that are nesting.
Eggs! Eggs! Whooaah!! Everytime I see eggs, it makes me happy! These are fertile eggs!
We got our customized incubators to incubate collected fertile eggs. This is to prevent Mama hens on nesting and keeping them lay eggs continuously.
We let our eldest daughter to experience collecting fertile eggs for incubation.
These are the brooding chicks. Newly hatched chicks. We let them stay there for a month with the light. Then we will transfer them into a larger cage to let them grow for another month.
These are our growing chickens. They are in 2 months old or more. In this stage we take them out from the cages.Let them explore the whole area to let them the grass. But before that we did the deworming and vaccination first.
As they are aging for about 4 months, we undergo the selection of the females to prepare them for breeding. For the rooster, we will select 2-3 heads for breeding. The rest are for sale for meat or for breeders, it depends on the demand of the buyer.
Raising chickens is not that easy as you can see it. That was my first impression too but along the process we encountered failures or mistakes but it will always be counted as experience and growth. We just started and we are on the this process in chicken farming.
There are lot of things to master. The feeding for every stages, the laying and hatching, dealing with the their inevitable sickness.
At this stage, I can say that can handle the farm with my 50/50 confidence. Incubation and the selling process is the biggest challenge as the moment. But I do believe, we can get through it soon.We just hope and pray for the success! My heart is so hopeful that this will become a channel of blessing.
So much about chickens!hahaha..I will keep you updated as we grow in experience. Thank you for reading up to this point. I hope you will ride with our journey in chicken farming.
Sharing you the verse of the day :
