EYiA ( Enterprise for Youths in Agriculture)
I got to know about this program through a friend of mine named Precious. She told me that there is a program called EYiA. It involves farming without soil hence the name Soilless farm lab. It is also a youth empowerment program that lasts for 3 months.
The reason why it is referred to as soilless farming is because they make use of screenhouses and net houses for cultivation. So within the three (3) months duration we are expected to know how to construct screenhouses and net houses and also how to plant and how to care for our plants.
Now let me talk about EYIA in proper
Enterprise for Youth in Agriculture (EYIA) aims to empower young people in agriculture by: Promoting agricultural entrepreneurship, developing agricultural skills, improving food security and sustainability, fostering leadership and community engagement.
I mentioned earlier of being introduced to EYiA (Enterprise for Youth in Agriculture) through a friend of mine.
At first my going to EYiA was to like leave the house since after my youth service i tried to apply for job applications online but there was no tangible response from those firms and my people are already complaining about my staying indoors that its becoming too much so when i got to know about EYiA i saw it as a getaway for me.
Another reason for my coming is also the networking like i love meeting new people, i love making friends so i saw it as an opportunity to network with other people. I was told that it comprises of both the lifestyle of a private university and camp life and i always wish to have those two experiences again.
On getting here i realised there is more to EYiA than a place to network or a getaway from boredom, it's a place to learn new things be it character wise, technology wise like the idea of using technology for planting and also a place to try things that i always to wish to do but doesn't have the opportunity to do.
I also saw it as a way of creating job opportunities for youths not only in Agriculture but in other aspects of the economy life. We are not only trained as a farmer we are also taught a lot of things which i will be sharing with you in my next post.
EYIA's mission and goals focuses on supporting young farmers, promoting sustainable agriculture, and contributing to food security and economic growth.
