Our journey in the world of postage stamps has painted another white spot on the historical map of philately and we are completing the set of postage stamp series Plants of Russian Steppes, issued in the USSR in 1986, with another postage stamp with a face value of 20 kopecks of the USSR, which depicts a field flower Cornflower (Rhaponticum carthamoides).
To be honest, I was surprised to see a yellow cornflower.
All the cornflowers I saw were purple or pink.
On lawns, most often you can see the cultural forms of this plant.
But when I leave the city limits. then I find wild cornflowers, the shape of the inflorescences of which is very similar to the one we see on a postage stamp, the difference is only in color.
All cornflowers are excellent honey plants and many insects seek to feast on their nectar.
My photographs, unfortunately, cannot show exactly this. yellow cornflower, but we can see it on a postage stamp.
