Our journey through the world of postage stamps continues.
We will linger on the territory of the now defunct country called the Soviet Union, in a country where philately was an accessible and very common hobby.
At the Union Press kiosks you could buy Soviet newspapers with Politburo summaries, dull magazines, pocket calendars and postage stamps.
The new postage stamps had a special smell, lol.
My parents wanted me to be an expert sniffer lol. I had a very sensitive sense of smell, but, with age, it disappeared.
But, I can still distinguish some aromas, for example, I can distinguish the smell of a berry that grew in the garden from one that grew in the wild, in the forest, I think that each of us knows the rich aroma of wild berries.
It was not by chance that I started talking about berries. Today we will start completing a series of postage stamps called "Wild Berries", issued in the USSR in 1982.
On the first postage stamp, with a face value of 4 kopecks of the USSR, we see the Cloudberry berry (Rubus chamaemorus).
Outwardly, judging by the image, this berry is a bit like a raspberry, the photograph of which I published above.
But, compared to raspberries, this berry looks very poor, but I think that its taste is many times greater than the taste of raspberries we are used to.
Unfortunately, I have not tried this berry and cannot give any comparisons that would somehow indicate the flavor notes.
In those parts where I lived, this berry does not grow.
And I have not heard that someone would grow cloudberries in their garden.
The circulation of this postage stamp I think no less than the number of all cloudberries harvested in 1982. lol and is 8,000,000 copies.
