I do think there's a big programming component, yes. This I saw because I've lived in more than one country and I've noticed depending on the place people can have, as groups, diffrent collective perceptions of their self worth when compared to others.
Let me give you an example, before coming to the US, I had never heard anyone say "I just want to be someone!" Say what?! You are someone! I've noticed in USA, and this from my perspective, people are much more aware of their social status and whether or not they are perceived as successful. Where I'm from people care about what others think, yes, but mostly because they know others can get in the way of their dreams. What are their dreams? Mostly to have comfortable shelter, a house, a car that works right, not having to worry about food or medicine. Those are dreams...you know what are not dreams? Becoming someone!!!
It scares me to think the amount of anxiety all the people who think they are not someone are living with, it scares me to think what they could be capable of doing to become someone.
