Welcome to my first post on pob-art, today I will be discussing about lines and shades which is the basics to drawing anything. I have noticed that only few people participate in pob-art drawings, the rest probably just go there to get entertained and upvote.
This is why I would be sharing this post, with this basic knowledge, anybody can pick up the pen and draw.
Lines.
A line basically is the part way that connects a point to another. In art rough sketches are allowed, so instead of starting your drawing with a fine/refined line, it is advisable to make free and faint moving lines, after which you can now follow the part that you wish to follow, this helps to make lesser mistakes.
The first 3 circles are the correct ways of drawing. After the refined lines had been made from the sketches, then we move to the shading techniques.
Shades.
There are different types of shading techniques, we have the hatching, pointillism, scribble, cross hatching and so on.
I would be talking about hatching, pointillism and scribble.
The hatching method is a type of drawing that involves continuous lines in one direction as we can see in the first circle from the left side, I use this a lot while shading with pen.
The pointillism method of shading is the most time taking method, most artists do not have the patience to use this method, where as those who do makes unique works if they apply patience. It is done by concentrating points in the darker parts while spacing the points in the lighter part as seen in the middle circle.
The scribble method of shading is the fastest method. It is done by freely making all manner of continuous bending lines, concentrating on the darker parts more than the lighter part.
Light and shade
Everything we see is brought to life in a 3 dimensional form in our eyes by the reason of light and shade. Light and shade is caused when sun light or other sources of light shines on an object/body whereby causing the it to cast shade or shadow on another object/body. Just like you are seeing it in this picture below 👇🏼.
While shade, there usually are the darkest part followed by a less dark part till it gets to the light part, the better you represent the shades respectively the better your drawing looks.
Tie your drawings down
In other not to make your drawing look like it is floating, you should add shadows to the base, this brings out the reality in the image, it makes it look more like the object is sitting in a surface. The direction of the shadow is always opposite the direction of the sun or source of light.
Note: one source of light, one shadow, two sources of light, two shadow and so on.
The closer the show is to the object the darker it becomes, the farther away it is from the object, the less darker it is.
Shades on flat shapes.
While dealing with flat shapes, the surface behind the rays of light has even shade of darkness, whereas the surface that faces the light is brighter, depending on how far the rays of light can travel, the closest angle of the surface that faces the light gets brighter than the other angles.
You can’t learn until you pick up a pen, or a pencil and start to draw something. Don’t say you can’t do it, nobody came with the perfect talent to draw, we all picked it up at some point.
Drawing something today and do not forget to share it with us 😊. Thank you.
