As part of my ongoing efforts to grow my account this year, I have decided to "branch out" a little.
So this week, I am participating in 's weekly #POBphotocontest. This week's subject is "numerous." You can read the introductory post and rules if you'd like to learn more and participate!
This first photo is my official entry:
This was taken during the late summer, on a local boat cruise around some of our small uninhabited islands, mostly for the purpose of spotting various types of seals, as well as sea otters.
Near sunset, thousands of sea gulls settle on this low sandy outcroppings for the night, but every time a group of seals arrive to also get on the beach for the night, the gulls are scared up into these huge swarms.
The noise is enornmous, and lasts for a few minutes till they all settle again. Then the process repeats, when another group of seals arrive.
The remaining photos are from the same trip, but are not my "official" entry photo, because they were not as good. But they offer a further sense of the scene.
The sun has actually set below the horizon at sea level, but the gulls are high enough to still get sun!
Somehow, they manage to not collide with each other!
It's standing room only, when they do settle on the ground!
Last shot before it got too dark. We are already losing the ability to focus the camera well, at distance. But the night colors are beautiful!
Well, that's it for this go around. Thanks again to for the contest, and to
who's donating
points as prizes!
Till the next one!
