My dream job before the age of 10 was to be a banker....funny right?? ........ Worry not, I will tell you my reasons.
Bankers work in a bank and that is where most financial transactions take place and this involves savings, sending and receiving of money.
When I was younger, I followed my dad to the bank to carry out some transactions. I was mesmerized when I saw people dressed in suit and tie. I asked my dad who they are, and he said they are called Bankers. Curious me, I again asked my dad why they are dressed on suit, and he told me that's how all bankers are expected to dress.
The bank was looking so beautiful and well organized. When we walked up to the counter, a lady smiled at my dad and said... How may I help you sir? That alone was the moment for me. I couldn't sleep that night and when I eventually slept, I dreamt I was a banker...hahahaha…
The next morning, the first thing I did was to ask my mother to tell me more about bankers. My mother was surprised at the question, but she just smiled and asked... Bright why do you want to know about bankers?

"I love how they speak to customers with so much politeness. Dad said they are paid good salaries, and they live a comfortable life. I really want to be like them"... I replied.
My mum smiled, she then told me everything dad said yesterday and even more. She said, if you really want to be a banker, you have to read your books and face your studies. I couldn't stop telling everyone that cared to know what my dream job was.
Funny but true... I wanted to enjoy what they were enjoying. I wanted to be paid a good salary, and also live a comfortable lifestyle. It was not even about what they do, it was about how they dress and the lifestyle they enjoy. Little did I know there was more to that until I became older.
I wouldn't say I am living the same dream I had as a child because I am not. With the dream of becoming a banker in mind, I decided to study Economics since it's more advanced than accounting, banking and finance, and marketing.
I became a graduate of Economics but, instead of finding myself in a bank, I found myself in a classroom teaching Economics for senior classes.

Can you believe it?... I became a teacher... Funny right??...
I started applying for employment in banks and companies immediately after my graduation. I applied for more than 5years and was never successful. My dream of becoming a banker was gradually dying because all my effort to get a bank job was futile. I realized that only those who have connections gets the job and since I have no connection, there was little or no hope.
I couldn't bear staying at home anyone, so I applied for a job as an economics teacher and I got the job. It was not funny at first because that was nothing compared to my dream job. I never thought a time would come when I will have to teach in schools... I never saw myself becoming a teacher, but I guess destiny had other plans for me.
I would say it was a good move because I have come to love teaching so much. I have come to realize that as a teacher, I have the opportunity to shape the life of a child, and also bring out the best in them. I have realized that a teacher is even more important than a banker and without a teacher, there won't be a banker.
I do not have any regrets, and I am totally satisfied and contented. It's like a new dream for me. It's like I am living the best of dreams because it gives me joy whenever I impact knowledge to people.
My students love me and call me their role model. Parents call me and appreciate me for my effort. I feel as a teacher I have touched many lives as I wouldn't if I were a banker.
I love my job and in my next life, I still would want to be a teacher.
