A notification came Into my phone.
I checked it immediately because i was expecting some btc transfer into my wallet. But what I saw was much better than btc.
"Whaaaaaasaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!"
I screamed
My kid sister rushed into the room.
"What is the problem"
"There's no problem that was A shout of joy"
"Oh really, what happened?"
"You remember . The eagle eye captain I told you about?"
"Yeah! Did she become the president of USA?"
"No, she just sent me two tickets for a trip to Laos."
"Waaow! That's awesome. Bro where exactly is Laos?"
"Laos is a country located in Southeast Asia, it shares boarder with Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam."
"When are we leaving?"
"Who is we? who said you are going with me?"
"We both know there is no other person you will rather take on this trip. No one gives you vibe the way I do. Plus have you forgotten my expertise in photography, you need my skills on this trip. Admit it."
"Well Pack your bag, we will leave right now."
The 22 hours flight to Luang Prabang was great. Luang Prabang is a city in the northern part of Laos. Luang Prabang is Known for its rich culture and tasty food. We took a $6 ride to View Khem Khong Guesthouse. It Took us 30 minutes to get there. And we were welcomed by a very nice guy Eric Who Took Our Bags, took us to the receptionist where we paid $16 for a twin room. And Eric showed us to our room where he finally dropped our bags. We got to the hotel at 2:45am. We were so tired, we showered and went straight to bed.
Despite going to bed late, we had to wake up as early as 5am to join the Sai Bat Ritual. This is A ritual of giving alms to orange-robed monks. The sight of hundreds of monks lining the streets to collect food and different items from local people is truly a beautiful sight.
The ritual lasted till 6am. Then we got ready for the day. That was when we got a chance to actually explore the hotel because we came in pretty late last night.
The hotel was really beautiful and what I particularly love about this hotel was its restaurant view. made sure every view was captured.
The hotel actually offered breakfast, but we decided to step outside for breakfast. Outside we were surrounded by so many beautiful restaurants, we didn't know which to go for. We actually decided to throw lots and it fell on Le Calao Restaurant
The way we were exploring the restaurant, you could easily tell that we haven't been there before. We checked out the menu and honestly i have never heard of any of the meal i saw there.
"Sis, what are you going for?"
"Omoh! The food here are looking strange and quite attractive. I'll go for LAO BUFFALO STEAK."
"😂Buffalo this early morning, well I'll go for LUANG PROBANG SALAD"
We Ordered And it was served hot and really attractive.
The meal was really sumptuous and delicious. Our bill came and it was $5. We cleared the bill. Then headed out to begin our adventure. Thanks to Eric from the hotel, he helped us to make a list of places we should visit and gave us directions too.
We decided to start the Tour from the beautiful Tham Nam river.
We took a $15 ride and we got to the location. On getting there we had to pay $2 each at the entrance.
We were presented with two offers, either enjoy the Zipline Experience [The one that involves whizzing from one end of a cable to another, dangling on a pulley] or enjoy the kayaking Experience [The One Where You Use A kayak to move over the river]. Both of them sounded fun, but then it always gets me pretty scared when I see people zip lining. I was still contemplating on which to go for when my sis exclaimed.
"Could we go for the both?"
She got an affirmative reply.
"Are you sure you want to go whizz over those cables?"
"Hell yeah, and I'm doing it with you right by my side."
"There's no way I'm dangling like a monkey over those scary cables."
"It's either you join me willingly or I'll push you over the cliff myself😂"
I found myself climbing the spiral staircase inside a silo followed by a long & daunting suspension bridge.
I couldn't believe this. This was me standing 4400ft above the ground. The view from up here was actually lovely. It formed an amazing landscape of trees and mountains.
Our guide gave us instructions and a brief guideline training on zip-lining. There were 6 lines in total, and it had a passive break, you didn't have to apply breaks, it slows than then stops automatically.
My Sis couldn't wait to go. The guide strapped her in and she went zzzzzrrrrr! I could hear her scream like she just won in a casino.
In A matter of minutes she was on the other end. I don't think I can do this. "It's not too late to go back" I said to myself
It was my turn to go. I could feel my knees shiver, I was breathing heavily. The guide kept assuring me that it is totally safe and fun.
I was finally strapped, Harness, helmet and all. Here we go.
It felt like my body moved without my heart, I screamed loud, but I realized that no matter how loud I scream, nobody can save me now. In the first few seconds, my eyes were closed tightly. On opening them I realized that it was actually fun dangling over the green forest canopy that covers the mountains on the side of the river. The view was amazing. In few minutes it slowly came to rest. With the help of a guide my sis unstrapped me.
"Wow! That was fantastic!"
"I told you it would be fun, i heard you screaming like a scared monkey😂"
"Sis don't let me throw you off this cliff"
They served us a delicious lunch. I never knew that the money we paid at the entrance covered our lunch.
After eating we were too lazy to go for the kayaking experience, we just sat and watched people paddling on the kayak like their life depended on it. With my Sis taking pictures non-stop.
It was totally fun! We headed back to the City with another $15 ride. Our next stop was the Elephant Camp At Ban Ann. It was a 15km ride out of town. Enroute we made a brief stop at the Henri Mouhot Monument at kang Noon who found Angkor Wat in Siem Reap. But he died of malaria on his fourth visit to Laos.
We continued to the camp. On arrival we were given a brief history and origin of the 10 elephants. Then we paid $35 for an hour elephant ride. It was Totally fun. We have never been on an elephant before. At first, was a bit scared of getting on the elephant, but not as scared as I was before my zip line experience.
It was 4pm and We were pretty exhausted, so we decided to cool off at the Kuang Si Waterfall We paid $2.5 each at the entrance. Wev dived in and took a refreshing swim in the turquoise pool. We sat in the pool enjoying the sunset and taking beautiful pictures.
We spent roughly an hour here and headed back to the city to visit the Luang prabang night market.
We didn't want to by anything at the market, but hearing that they had everything you could possibly need, made me curious to see for myself. And of course take lovely pictures. We took a 10$ ride to the city.
For the Purpose of the night market, all roads were closed and it was a beautiful sight and truly everything you wanted was available at the market.
We were quite famished, so we bought a 3$ dinner at the street food stand.
We spent several hours walking through the market, exploring different materials showcased. With taking pictures of every step. It seemed like the market was unending and new shops kept popping out of every corner.
We got back to the Hotel around 8pm. We were exhausted, but it was definitely worth it. Honestly the people here are amongst the most friendly and welcoming you will ever meet, always happy to help or share a Lao beer or some Lao-Lao whiskey; they will make you feel like a long-lost son returning home.
