Years ago I loved puzzles and still do, but life has kept me busy and there has never been enough time to finish such a big piece. I think I have 3 or 4 puzzles in my collection but the temptation is always high when I see a new one, so yesterday I gifted myself a puzzle, a big one that has 1000 pieces.
It's not the usual puzzle as the most wanted are photos of big cities, landscapes, animals and what not. This is a painting.
Once it's done, it's going to be a 73cm x 48.5cm painting on my table.
It wasn't brand new as those are expensive and I don't see why I should pay 10 times more. However, it looked brand new though and costed me 2 euro.
There's always the initial excitement, when you open a brand new puzzle and start working on it.
First the edges must be laid out, to help you start.
Puzzle Of Life
While I was looking for the pieces to do the edges and corners, I was thinking of a case that happened today. About a month ago I saw a post, in which the user was asking the community if we know anything about a certain condition. It wasn't something common like a cold, the diagnosis was a pretty particular one, even the name was difficult to remember if you were not involved in it.
Today during curating I came across a post that was about the same diagnosis. I was not 100% sure at first, so i had to check, but my mind is still sharp as it was about the same diagnosis. Obviously I wasn't happy to know someone else is suffering of the same illness but was happy to be able to connect them which may help in sharing information. When it comes to illnesses and cures, there's no such thing as too much information.
While I was doing the puzzle, I was thinking about how life is like a big puzzle. Every problem has a solution, you just have to find the missing piece and put it to its place. If you are skilled, you do it fast, if not, you most likely you will be spending a lot of time looking for the missing piece.
There's a high possibility you won't find the missing piece right away, you will try a few pieces that don't fit first.
Life is just like that. You try different solutions to different problems, that may not work, then you find a solution that fits like a glove.
The difference between puzzle and real life is that a puzzle game can be relaxing and fun. It helps me think of things I have to resolve, plans I have to make in real life, while solving problems in real life can be stressful and costy too. But in order to solve both, you have to put every single piece to its place. No cheating, no shortcuts, not half measures as those would ruin the big picture.
Back to my puzzle, it's going to keep me busy for a few weeks as time is limited, but I don't mind at all. Because this was kind of second hand as the outer packaging, the plastic was missing, there's a chance some pieces could be missing. However, that could not happen as there was still small cardboard particles in the box, that comes from the cutting.
I remember years ago people used to glue the pieces to a cardboard and frame the puzzle, then pin it to the wall, like a painting.
So, let's see who likes puzzles? Nowadays you have puzzle games on your phone. I have one too and can choose whatever image I like, but it's not the same, not by far. I still prefer the real one.
What about you? Do you have any puzzle games at home?
