This is probably my favourite. The grunge is very prominent but the motorcyclist silhouette stands out well enough to pin it as a street scene.
These images are an exploration in taking some of my street photography and introducing textures, patterns and grunge to produce a kind of street collage art that is from the street rather than on the street.
The basic technique was to separate the image into its dark tones, light tones and mid tones. Then each of these three were filled with a different pattern/grunge, usually sticking to dark for dark and light for light. There were variations on this such as putting back some of the original photograph or overlaying a pattern over the whole image. The possibilities of Photoshop (and probably other photo editing software) are amazing!
The stripes and halftones patterns come from Photoshop whilst all the grunge is from my own photos. All photos taken somewhere in Thailand.
Another street traffic scene but left much closer to the original photograph.
Bangkok traffic - red was definitely the right choice for these stripes - the weather was hot and so was my temper!
My preferred mode of transport but perhaps best left leaning against the fence in Bangkok. Ended up with a nice colour combination on this one.
A cat in one of Bangkok's rough back streets, that roughness exaggerated by the grunge textures. This technique works well with silhouettes.
Bangkok's street dogs are a natural subject for grunge. Perhaps they are the grunge?
The choice of background grunge worked well here to increase the idea of the intense heat this dog was wandering around in.
Canalside homes. Unfortunately most of Thailand's lowland canals do not have very good water quality so some dirty grunge actually looks about right.
A coffee table high-lighted by the choice of grunge fills, whilst my wife is camouflaged by the choice of fills.
Another silhouette that allows for heavy use of grunge. This woman was walking in a shopping mall.
This looks like it should have some meaning but I have no idea what it is.
The confused artificial neon world of a shopping mall with its reflections and love of gaudy colours and simple lines.
A man patiently waiting for his flight at an airport. Such a depressingly dull part of life that I thought a bit of colourful grunge might help.
A wistful woman waiting for something, perhaps somebody, outside a restaurant.
