A few days ago, we paid a visit to Point Waterfront in Durban.
We went down to the beach to take some photos of the activities happening there with boats being launched and coming back onshore.
But right next to the Waterfront is the entrance and exit to Durban Harbor.
From the beach, I got access to a point where I could get some nice photos of this "channel" giving access to the harbor.
I was actually hoping to see some big ships coming in or going out, but it wasn't my lucky day. I'll just have to try again later.
But I still took some photos from this spot anyhow.
Unfortunately, the road was blocked off for some reason and I couldn't get right up to the railing, but I still managed to get these photos.
The first photo is looking towards the harbor. These two ships were docked right on the outer part of the harbor, with a pleasure boat leaving the harbor, coming towards us.
There are several companies/boat-owners who provide pleasure cruises in and around the harbor, with some of them even taking you out for an hour-long pleasure cruise on the ocean outside the harbor. These cruises can be booked and they operate from Wilson's Wharf inside Durban Harbor.
Some time ago, Elmarie (my wife) and I went on such a little cruise and it was quite enjoyable. I'll dig around to see if I can find some of the photos and I'll share them here.
This boat is obviously taking some people out, casually cruising past me towards the open sea.
Looking out over the entrance/exit towards the ocean, catching a nice splash right at the entry point.
Going back onto the beach to get back to the car, this colorful boat caught my eye and I just had to take a photo.
If you look at the name of the boat, you can clearly see the difference in spelling rules. On the boat, you can see how we spell "colorful" in South Africa...lol.
The last photo I want to share today, is almost like a summary of what I am planning to share over the next few weeks to come.
I would like to take some photos, capturing the "Golden Mile" in Durban.
The Golden Mile starts here at the Point Waterfront and Ushaka Marine World, and then stretches along the beaches of Durban up to the North Beach at the Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World.
It also now includes a (walking) route from the Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World, up to the Moses Mabhida Stadium. I would say it is a good 2 KM walk from there to the stadium. We always park our car in the parking area at the Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World when we go to rugby matches at King's Stadium which is right next to the Moses Mabhida Stadium. It's not to expensive, it's safe and there is less traffic when you come out after the match. At the same time you get a nice walk in.
The Moses Mabhida Stadium was one of the newly built, modern stadiums built in South Africa to host the World Soccer Cup, back in 2010.
So, the Golden Mile starts from where this photo is taken. You will then follow the beach to the left of the photo.
You will then get to the promenade which runs along the entire Golden Mile, along the coastline (or beaches) until you get to the opposite end of the city.
The single building that you can see in front of the white construction to the right of the city, is the Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World.
The white construction (with the arch over it), is the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
There are various places of interest that I would like to visit along this route...a "mini town" replica of the city of Durban amongst others.
We've been wanting to go there for who knows how long, and we have just never got around to do it.
And that's it for today.
Thank you for reading my post. I do appreciate it!
