This post is my entry for this week's challenge in the #POBphotochallenge.
I found it very interesting when I saw the theme for this week's #pobphotochallenge: "White".
To begin with, many people would argue that white isn't even a color. Yet, it is a color indeed.
Okay, so white is white, right?
No, wrong.
In all honesty, I also thought white is white, until some years ago when my wife started working in the motor industry.
She works in the offices of a large auto body repairing company (locally referred to as panel beating companies here in South Africa). She often deals with quotations, placing orders, etc. And this is when we learned how many different varieties of white there are.
When I asked my wife about this before writing this post, she said if she remembers correctly, they deal with about 72 different varieties of white.
I did an online search and found various answers. Ranging from 52 to some ridiculously high numbers. The highest number of varieties I found where they actually describe each type of white (code included), was a variety of 122 shades of white.
So, how many different shades of white are there exactly?
I don't know... As I've mentioned, I keep getting different results, but there are many.
What I do know is that on a recent visit to a local beach, going on one of our regular walks, I saw such a beautiful white, that it really caught my attention.
We went for a walk on the beach in Winkle Spruit, Amanzimtoti, just south of Durban, South Africa. As I was taking photos of the surroundings, nature, and the ocean, I couldn't help but notice the bright, crystal clear white of the surf coming out over the rocks and onto the beach.
I tried to capture it as best I could by taking some photos of it.
