Hi Hive,
This is my experience at the just concluded hive fest. This happens to be the 6th edition and my first and I am really glad I attended.
I saw hivers and non-hivers from all over the showing up on the virtual space and interacting like it’s a physical meetup. The experience really felt nice.
I had installed the altspaceVR on my PC, this was over 400MB and took quite a while on my PC. I realized just how low spec my PC was to allow and enjoy VR. But I pushed ahead and endured the various lags. Turned out it was just at the edge of minimum requirement
It was an oversight for me, to not have registered, I was glad on could still participate to some extent without registering. There wouldn’t be a badge for me at the fest and I wont be able to partake in the meet up contest shared by . Okay.
There may well be other benefits of registering, however, for what its worth, its good to have registered.
Challenges
I had the issue with my PC where I couldn’t be heard despite hearing every other person. I was frustrated setting up sounds and trying to make it work. It never did, even when I used my behringer sound card, the best I achieved was that I could hear myself, but it never made a sound on the altspace and my mic never flickered even after I changed the audio input too. I gave up and it was probably my PC or something. If anyone could help, I ll be glad to be helped. As there are other opportunities on altspace I still would love to attend.
How I got along
I m grateful for who really was my mouthpiece as he helped me communicate with a few hivers at the Fest. Thanks Chief. Through him I got to meet
too, I wasn’t settled enough I should have thought of a selfie with them.
There after I went on to figure out how to type and send messages to people. Finally my chance to meet people and probably say hi.
So here was my plan
- Go to someone you wanna meet
- Wave a hand and use an emoji to get there attention
- Send them a friend request( and hope they accept, its difficult to easily accept a friend request from someone who isn’t talking, I get it, but at this point, anything that could help)
- Once they accept request, I immediately tell them I cant speak but wanna say hi, and from there we get chatting.
It was a bit more difficult than I had expected but it was worth all the stress, meanwhile I kept testing the mic saying..”hello,, hello , can anyone hear me.. hello”. Lol.
I made about 10 new friends and hope to follow up on them in real space was really cool and I m glad I met her. Hehehe.
@Lilianduart too, thanks for accepting, I tried waving at you but I guess you, I m glad it eventually worked, thanks for accepting my request.
I m not sure if this your hive name, but thanks,
would have loved to talk with you, I m grateful you accepted the muted guy's request.Lol
my Chief, good to have seen some known hive friends in there, thanks so much,
, we were chatting in the real world and getting lost in the altspace hehe, it was fun still I hope to do better next year.
Other friend requests I was successful with were ,
,
and
, would have loved to get to know you more, but I still have a good chance now on Hive and I hope these are your hive usernames too.
I learnt a lot from the talks too, made the first day lit sharing about the Hispanics on hive and how they are really thriving, I really hoped that will soon be the African community and especially the Nigerian Community, wont be bad to think
would be sharing at the next hive fest.
I also got a lot from the SPKnetwork ,
, talking about web3 being "more a place where digitalized becomes more physicalized".
Lets say I got by with this for the while, but at a point it got really hectic. Switching from typing and navigating. But most of all, I m glad I was at the fest and I appreciate it. My experience wasn't so bad after all.
In case you missed out, you can still learn a lot from the loads and loads of information shared there here for day 1 and here for day 2
