The more time I spend with my cats, their ability to comprehend my language has increased much faster than I had expected. They know how to attract my attention and to show their affection. They would quietly come to sit under my chair or sit by my feet. They like to let their tails brushing against my legs. Their new ways of interacting with me surprise me and was rather unexpected. I reckon this means my orange cats are getting closer to me and see me as being trustworthy.
I have never shown them my anger or violent actions or displeasure even when they were very naughty. They know I don’t like cats jumping onto counter toop in the kitchen or dining table. They seem to have very good manners and behave nicely. Only once did I saw Kwan jumping onto the countertop while I was opening a new cat food package. The smell was too strong and it excited Kwan so much that she cried in excitement. I just simply put her back on the floor and told her to wait and be patient. Joan was more adult like, he sat quietly while staring at my hands’ movements. As soon as I placed the food bowl on the floor, Joan would cry in excitement before gobbling up his food.
So, I have discovered that the best way to train cats was to odd gentle words and show them the correct manners. They wouldn’t be hurt by hurtful scolding words or emotional movements full of anger or disapproval. Whenever they did something ‘wrong’ such as hunting small birds, I would explain to them that the mother bird would be very sad for losing her baby and it’s bad karma. Kwan used to climb up trees in search of little birds in nests. Nowadays, Kwan seem to be hunting bigger birds from time to time. But as she puts on more weights, she seems to run around less.
My neighbours complained to me that she didn’t like the black and white stray cat to be in her house anymore. That cat had very bad manner. He jumped up the dining table and stole the whole fried fish twice! My neighbour just took her eyes off the table for two seconds! That stray cat was very fast and too greedy. He was fed mackerels, freshly bought from the market, twice a day! Joan never behaved like that when he visited her house for a few days, just for those free mackerels! Luckily, Joan came back to me whenever he heard me shouting his name. My neighbour seems to be very fond of Joan.
But my neighbour didn’t know how to look after Joan’s grandmother when she migrated to her house three years ago. She let a big black stray cat threatened and harassed the old cat. She was chased off the house by that aggressive cat and disappeared in the woods. I was very hurt and sad for months and searched for her around the village for two months.
I could assess the character of stray cats correctly so I would take immediate action to placate any ‘bad’ stray cats from my house with persistence. I could feel that some stray cats were very tricky and opportunistic; these cats had accumulated too much bad karma to have positive vibes around them. I just had to let them go on their ways. Cats are just like people; you find nice people and you might find criminals or psychopaths depending on karmic conditions. So, I just hope that positivity will always attract cats with positive vibes.
My orange cats are different from others as they like to be around when I do my walking meditation and prayers in the evening. They seem to enjoy listening to the calm and repetitive tones of prayers. They also like to participate in the process of sharing compassion with all sentient beings on earth. They would come to sit on my feet, as if to be connected electromagnetically with my vibes. Joan is always excited before the little ceremony and would cry out before running to sit on my foot. Kwan would be leaning on my foot sometimes. So, these cats have learned something about spiritual practice which would help them to be reincarnated as humans next time.
These orange cats me keep me company by sleeping all day long. They have hit used to me creeping on them with my camera but they have very good ears. They caught me several times with my camera; Joan didn’t like to be photographed while sleeping. Kwan is a deep sleeper, she wouldn’t notice my movements. At night, they would sit and watch the front gate just like soldiers guarding the house. I am so grateful to have such smart and nice cats looking after the house for me. So, I hope to be able to look after them as best as I could for many years.
Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.
Stay strong and cheerful.
