Have you ever sat down to think about why things turned out the way they did?why you react some way in a particular situation or why you end up in a situation because of your actions or reactions.
Most times i sit and wonder why we behave certain ways as humans, why do we exhibit certain traits? Or why should we think certain ways. Then i realize most times it’s just the issue of causality. Most times it’s just the science of cause and effect at play while other times it’s just us being unpredictable.
I have seen, read and heard of instances where male folks behave certain ways to their female counterparts and with the increasing rate of rape, murder cases, kidnapping and etc i cane to a conclusion that the cause of all this actions is not simple logic where we say it’s just cause and effect.
I’ve seen people getting provoked at the slightest excuse and the minutest of reasons. Men go wild in front of a lady not because she was dressed indecently but because the man is just a beast in the form of a man. When you look at it critically you’d realize there is no rational excuse you can give for that action.
Speaking to my friend a while back and she narrated her sexual ordeals to me. One thing i was able to pick out is the guy she is dating have forced himself on her on her first visit to his place. I tried to look at it logically to understand what might have caused him to rape her in the first instance and i found none. I tried looking at it in the angle of cause and effect or action to reaction. Questions popped in my head like was she leading him on, did she seduce him, was he drunk? And a whole lot of other questions.
As these questions keeps popping thinking in line with the general norm of the society where the lady is blamed mostly for the rape but then my rational self asked a question what then happens to guys that are being raped, were they indecently dressed as well or seduced their rapists. Then i concluded that there is no excuse that justifies the actions of rape or sex without consent.
The issue of causality, cause and effect or the science of for every action there is an equal or opposite reaction doesn’t work mostly for rapists. I have come to believe that rape as an action is not the spur or the moment, it’s a pre meditated action in most cases and the rapist enjoy such actions. It would now be unfair to the victim if we pass the blame on the basis of causality. Because the victims aren’t reponsible for the actions of the rapist irrespective of whatever excuse it is , rape is a criminal offence and should be treated as such.
