By nature of a book being made into a movie you are going to have some changes for practical reasons. But this was more of Jackie Chan action movie mixed with the book. The movie is set in the same epoch as the book.
There is a Phileas Fogg character, who is more like Doc Brown from Back to the Future or Rick from Rick and Morty, except he is bit awkward and not into vices and a complete loner. This is not like the Fogg in the book. Passeportout, the valet of Fogg, is played by Jackie Chan. In order to appease, who doesn't look French but he plays someone who is actually Chinese pretending to be someone French. Obviously, this Passeportout is not like the one in the book. Fits, the police officer is most clumsy character you could imagine. Mostly for comic relief. They meet a woman in France and she insists on accompanying them. This character doesn't exist in the book at all. There is a lady they met in India in the book.
There is a Chinese mafia connection in the movie as well.
The commonality is Fogg has a bet to go around the world in 80 days, he is thought to have made a robbery and so is being chased by Fix and is accompanied by someone called Passeportout. Basically this movie is the book, Jackie Chan, and MacGyver stirred up together.
