There are absolutely many angles Hive is lacking behind in terms of being acknowledged as a social media. First of all, I'd love to clarify that this is not a rant, but if I can get the required involvement then my job here is done.

OK, it is not in my place to judge anyone or any content, but at least I can criticize being that I hold a few tokens in staked form, and this grants me certain influence on the platform since it's runned by the community. A stake makes one a curator once he or uses it, and this has nothing to do with how much or how small tokens he/she holds.
That said, it is alright to see Hive as a news outlet, it is great that I can see artworks flying around, it is absolutely awesome that I can see stories, poems and poetries, but why does it still feel like the actual "fun" isn't there?
Blogging should be fun, non-topic limiting, insightful or plain, a rant or random talk about one's day and activities, conversational or debate focused, it's supposed to speak of the personality behind the keyboard, but very few of them exist here, everyone one else just copies their patterns in hopes of pulling through.
I personally write stories for the fun of it. I love horror especially, my aim is always to capture my readers mind, leave me tensed, excited and entertained. Writing stories can be boring when the engagement is not there, I don't write books, never publish one and not planning to. I just adopted the act of writing stories because it's like being on an adventure, just how I feel when watching a movie is how I feel when writing stories and this is also how I wish for my readers to feel.
Of course people are entitled to whatever they wish to write about, but honestly, from observations, a huge percentage of posts on Hive are not passion driven, there's no personal vibe to it, it's all about having fingers crossed and hoping to get rewards, sadly. I couldn't possibly spend my day on Hive then go to bed afterwards, come on, if Hive wasn't fun, my day entirely wasn't, because I spent it all on Hive, I chose it to be my social network, a place to be, so if it fails to be fun on certain days, there goes my entire day being funless.
There would be more engagement on Hive if people actually saw most of it as a social media, we basically see ourselves as aliens from around the world, coming together to compete for rewards. On Facebook when a foreigner meets with another, they get to talk and make a lot of noise, sometimes they fight each other, some become friends, share ideas, talk about random shits, this is always the best part, saying things that makes absolutely no sense, but then, it's getting people to laugh because it's stupid. If everyone could come on Hive and get a good laugh often, they'd be a lot more satisfied hivers.
I was once really active on Facebook so it's only easy for me to understand how we'd wake up by 2am just to post a joke and chitchat all night/morning in the comment section. There is absolute fun not getting rest by staying up and running around the socials. Engagement there was a killer because people were often open with their contents, even when it wasn’t really a free speech network. People still got to talk about random stuff, in fact, being smart or knowledgeable was never the case to making friends or winning on being the most engaged. What won the crowd was likely stupidity, lessons were most times derived from the comment section whereas the normal posts were full of shits.
These are what a personal blog should be like. People don't even wanna be taught these days, no one wishes to be motivated but yet we still have a lot of people trying to push it. Why not just talk about how you fell from a horse? I could laugh even if you were lying, it doesn't hurt though, lying was part of life anyway. Quality doesn't necessarily mean having knowledge filled content, it should rather reflect on having an entertained audience.
Do not wish to be like anyone else, be yourself, express yourself, you'll find your rightful audience being original
