CHILDREN PHOTOGRAPHY
Patience is the major key to ‘latch onto’ when it comes to photographing Children. There is no exact formula to put in place when photographing children; each photoshoot for any kid, tends to be different from any other kids you encounter. However, the beauty of photographing children is capturing them as they are, and how they appear before you; you don't have to ask for poses every time, because every moment tells its own thrilling story, especially when it comes to dealing with kids outside the studio — Outdoors Photograph. Photographically speaking, the best shots are often achieved in impromptu ways, especially when they're smiling, laughing, jumping or displaying absolute euphoria. When you capture this moment, it makes you to be fulfilled and excited as a photographer. Photographing children — capturing the magic of childhood, is a joyful and rewarding one to me, but it’s also uniquely challenging most times. Generally, most photographers face a lot of challenges with kids — in Children Photography, especially the ones that doesn't like dealing with strangers, while some kids will sure to give you headache when they need the attention of their parents in order to find the means to avoid you.
HOW I CAME ABOUT THESE SHOTS
My last experience with a three-year-old boy was a splendid one, but it was uniquely challenging. Before the photo session, I had an idea which upsurged in my mind, but I couldn't carry it out due to the fact that, the kids won't agree to be photographed, he is always crying and calling the attention of his parent (mom) that brought him to the studio. I tried every means to arrest his attention by petting him with a lot of toys available at the studio, but he won't stop, so all my means to keep him cool bounced back at me. It was after a few minutes of several attempts in trying to get the kid's attention, that I was able to give in my best shot in order to arrest his attention by engaging with the child, by singing him songs, clapping, and dancing just to jive him up while his parent (mom) watches us in a gaiety mood — you too, can relate here. The kid is happy afterall — this changed my mood too, which helped me to give in my best shot.
One thing is, you have to genuinely love engaging with children and make them confortable around you. Some of these tips would surely help all photographers in achieving the best of Children Photography. Your number one objective is to have that patience, and initiate them into something fun — make them happy, let them have fun — let them enjoy your presence around them. Once they are enjoying themselves and they are comfortable around you, they would surely give you priceless moments. That was what I actually learnt from that. At the end of it all, I did flow well with the kid and I established a friendly rapport which helped me to actualised these amazing SHOTS.
