Each lantern is tagged with a line of prayer. Some of them are for their health and some for their kids to enter college and I bet at least one is a prayer to be a millionaire.
Today, May 20th, is National be a Millionaire Day.
This is the day to do something a millionaire would do. What would you do? It can be something simple like having a special snack or drink or giving a special gift you normally wouldn't.
When it comes down to it I just don't like spending money on myself. I would rather take public transportation than drive. I would rather cook than go out to eat or buy snacks. I don't like to buy new clothes or even toys for the kids because they end up donated somewhere or in the garbage in a couple years.
Even if I was a millionaire I wouldn't change much. I guess a millionaire is not so impressive today. If I had a millionaire dollars it would mostly be in savings and investments for when I really needed it.
This year was one of those years. We sent support to loved ones in India and so many who were sick. We were millionaires and we lived like millionaires but in the end we have only what we need each day.
If I were a millionaire
If I were a millionaire I would take an extra long walk in a beautiful garden and treat myself to rice cake and a cup of warm apple cider. Wait a second. This is my day. I'm not a millionaire but I can still live like one even if it is only in my head.
The good part about not being a millionaire is that I can still go to work and dream of laying in the sun on a warm day. I can hear the waves rush in over the ocean and the birds sing and feel the cool breeze and the leaves dance in the trees. In reality I have a ton of work this week and I have to prepare a seminar in a couple weeks on the evolution of games in the contact-free (untact) classroom.
The big question is,
"If I were a millionaire would I still go to work?"
The answer is definitely, YES! It's worth it to put in the brain effort and time to see kids learning. There is still a lot of stress in schools today but the fact is the stress trickles down to the students.
Those kids need a stable teacher more than ever. Forget dreaming about being a millionaire. I've got something they can only dream of. I have a life to be thankful for that's worth living today.
