The waves are getting big again as we head into fall on the Big Lake.
The water is very warm this time of the year and it’s a great time to practice kayaking in the waves.
Without sinking. Or at least to practice sinking on turbulent water.
We go back and forth, crashing through the big waves on the way out and riding them back in as many times as possible trying to keep any water from getting in.
These are wide recreation kayaks.
Very stable in the water and waves.
But we don’t have a cover for the opening so you need to roll with the waves to keep the water out. As soon as a little water gets in it destabilizes the kayak, it sinks a little lower into the water and it makes it easier for more water to get in.
Eventually you sink, but it’s the best place to sink when you are in a controlled environment with a life vest and you can pull your kayak to shore.
There is some styrofoam in each end that keeps them floating well enough to pull out of the water.
