Our Sanskrit scholars have something to say:
गुणाः भूषयते रूपं शीलं भूषयते कुलम्|
प्रासादशिखरस्थोSपि काकः किं गरुडयते||
Gunaah bhooshayate roopam sheelam bhooshayate kulam.
Praaasada-shikharastopi kaakah kim garudaayate.
my own artwork
Gunaah = talent, virtues
Bhooshayate = decorate, beautify.
Roopam = appearance, figure.
Sheelam = character.
Kulam = family, clan.
Praasaad + shikharastho + api. Praasaad = a palace or a lofty building. Shikharstho = perched on the top.
Api = even.
Kaaakah = a crow.
Kim = can it ?
Garudaayate = match the majesty of an eagle.
The lines states "Talent beautifies the personality of a person, and his good character the status of his family. For instance,can an ordinary crow match the majesty and grandeur of a King eagle perched on the tower of a palace?"
Citing example of crow and eagle the scholars highlight how the talent in eagle makes them hold higher status. The main difference between a crow and an eagle is the big size of the eagle and its capacity to fly high. Simply occupying a high post one does not become great unless he possesses the requisite qualities.
