My entry to the #POBPhotocontest, run by is the hummingbird. Check Here for details on the contest.
The subject for the contest is "IN THE AIR,”
I enjoy seeing the hummingbirds, at the two feeders on my deck, throughout the summer.
The delicate looking little hummingbirds migrate to PEI, Canada when the weather warms up. I see them returning here in the month of May, after their long journey from Central America.
The hummers move so fast it’s difficult to photograph a clear image of them. The little creatures remind me of miniature angels.
The male, with the ruby colored throat, is more colorful than the female.
Here is the male, hovering in the air, getting some nectar from the Hosta flowers.
The pretty little female, with green colouring, drinking the sugared water from the feeder.
The ratio to fill the feeder is 1 part plain white sugar to 4 parts boiled water. The boiled water melts the sugar and purifies the water. Then it is left to cool before filling feeder.
I’ve taken these photos at various times.
By Sept 10th of this year, the hummingbirds had left my feeders to travel across the wide expanse of the Gulf of Mexico to enjoy the warm weather in South America.
I hope these wonderful little birds have a safe successful flight and return again next year to my yard.
