Hi
How are you today?
👀 I'm dancing between several ideas and need to stop now and write this article for you :)
🚩 Has it ever occurred to you to study and your mind to "run away" elsewhere, and then you just return to what you had to do before?
Do you happen to work on a computer at a project and suddenly an idea comes to you, you start looking for that idea on the internet, and in an hour you are still surfing the internet forgetting about the project?
🙏 Buddhists call this loss of attention, "the monkey mind." In the "tree of knowledge," the monkey-mind jumps from one branch to another without lingering on any branch long enough.
Mind discipline is absolutely necessary because it allows us to establish strategies for achieving goals.
For example, in the game of tennis, we practice individual "behaviors" in order to hit the ball correctly. But it is necessary to study the game strategies in order to win matches. For this, we use mental discipline.
Mental discipline or mental control is obtained through the practice of focusing attention.
ESSENTIAL! Control has a very simple definition: the ability to initiate, maintain and complete a certain activity (a certain process)!
One of the most well-known learning specialists is Tim Gallwey, the author of the Inner Game concept. Gallwey is a famous tennis coach who applies his principles with great success in the business world.
In "The Inner Game of Work," he explains the importance of focusing:
"Focus is the quintessence of top performance in any activity, regardless of a person's level of competence or age. We are simply performing when we are focused [...]"
So, to mentally discipline yourself, make sure that:
- You are aware of what you do "here and now"!
- Refocus your attention on what you are doing every time you find yourself deviating!
- Monitors interference with thoughts and "good ideas". If necessary, write down separately the ideas you would like to return to later (in this context they are interfering) and continue to focus on the present action.
An excellent question to refocus your attention on what you set out to do is, "What am I doing right now?"
👉By the way! What are you doing right now? What did you propose, or something else? 👇
As a final exercise, feel free to write down some of your ideas about mental discipline.
Include them as a comment below or simply write them down for yourself.
