Dang I missed the deadline for last week's WOTW, and I'd targeted this word 'consistency' as something I fancied writing about, but I spent too long mulling it over in my brain-thing, along with various other life-distractions getting in the way.
I guess missing a post means I lack POB WOTW consistency, which got me to thinking about whether it's worth rewarding consistency of performance over a season of say 5-10 words, and then having a 'seasons total reward' delegation prize for the T3 or so, based on cumulative score over those 5-10 posts.
I say this because around a decade ago I use to do these 5K runs around Clapham Common, and I was never going to win any of them, but I did tend to come in 2nd or 3rd or 4th (in my age category!) and I won a little virtual prize for coming 3rd over the season of six runs, for CONSISTENCY - they had points for each race and the guys that kept coming first didn't show up every race, so I managed to 'win' something for being good but not the best based on my consistent performance, which was good for me so I was happy enough.
And given that so many people on POB like to bang on about engagement and the community and consistency, it seems like a good idea to put something like this in place?
So my proposal is just keep the scoring the same but have another spreadsheet - and add up everyone's scores over 5-10 weeks and have a further layer of rewards for consistent performance.
It's another motivator!
Oh, the post i'd planned in rough...
It was going to be about consistency and how important it is, daily practice of anything if you want to improve, but also something about narrow and deep consistency - like missing a POB deadline, that's only inconsistent in the narrow sense of not sticking the rules of this particular game, but i've still been writing and thinking, so I'm consistent in that broader sense.
I was also hoping to jazz it up with a few references to the other meaning of consistency - like thick, thin, soup, paint, tar, you know, I had something really clever in mind like fusing the two meanings - but my brain-thing couldn't sort it out in time!
And as luck wouldn't have it, I'm NOT that inspired to write about this week's word!
