Hi everybody,
I had an improptu meeting early in the morning today to discuss some matter which needs attention and consensus. It was an hour meeting which ran smoothly but unfortunately ended with a disappointing note. I found that only a few gave consensus pertaining a matter but was treated as a majority voice and mostly only talk rather than to listen.
In reality, most people hate things that they don't like to listen. They rather avoid the fact and only listen to only things that they want to hear. They don't bear to hear the reality but instead drowns themselves with things that only agrees to them. To me, this is a problem.
For many years, this kind of culture in an organization tend to be bad for the business. Simply because, they are other side of the business you refuse to listen. This is exactly what happened in the meeting I went just now.
When you only want to hear things you want to hear, that is called avoiding change
This is a problem when you have an employee that refuse to change themselves to adapt with changes in an organization. Usually this happens because they have been in a safe bubble and getting out seems to be inconvenient.
Another cause of this is the refusal to learn new things and for you, new things are like a tabboo.
Listen to things that you don't want to hear, only then you can grow
As far facts can be hurtful, it is a process of learning and growing in an organization. Some may have a vast and wide experience, but that can't be treated as a factor for you to not listen to others or accepting change.
I will be having another meeting next week and I hope this meeting is more effective and they are actually listening. Only then issues and problems can be really fixed.
