Recently my wife and I noticed a bulge on my daughters temple. So we did what any parent would do and take her to a pediatrician. Here is where things started to become worrisome.
Japan has a good healthcare system, maybe not the best, but from my experiences with it personally, it's been good and promoted prevention of disease and a healthy lifestyle. Having said that, Japan is a very bureaucratic & a compartmentalized society. In some ways that is great, in others not so much.
The pediatrician wasn't adept to tell us what was wrong. He was part of a clinic that treats colds, flus, and the like. I still couldn't understand this as I thought a pediatrician knows all there is to know about children. He told us to go next door, have an MRI done and talk to the brain Dr. about the results. So we scheduled the appointment for the following week, last Wednesday.
The MRI is usually only for 10 years old and up as you are required to stay completely still for up to 20 minutes. My daughter is 9 and was confident she would be ok so they went ahead with the procedure. This was the result.
It doesn't look that bad from the outside, but this image has me worried sick.
The brain Dr. was a bit perplexed as 1. He is a brain specialist and not a skin specialist as he told us. 2. He hadn't seen anything like it before. He suspected that it is fat built up, but couldn't explain why. She doesn't have any pain, except for a small spot at her temple. The brain Dr. told us to go see a skin specialist, but didn't refer us to one. This kind of hand off by multiple Dr.s has me a bit concerned. I don't know if it's me or this is normal in the health care industry where they just hand off the patient as kind of a CYA.
So now we have to find a skin Dr. now, but I am also looking into an Optometrist at the same time as in doing my research a lot of problems on this part of the face are eye or eye socket related.
Anyway, please say a prayer for my daughter and hug your children because life comes at you fast.
