Good day everyone! Zak here from Cape Town South Africa bringing you more and more Warhammer 40k content. I have been getting back into my very fond hobby.
And as I am engaging with the lore of the hobby, the tabletop minatures and the painting it struck me that I have not yet covered more or less how MUCH media there is out there that is involved with the warhammer 40,000 universe!
So let me try give you an overview!
Games Workshop is the company that owns the Warhammer 40,000 name, universe etc. Citadel is the company they own that makes the miniatures and makes the rules for the game. They also have many many other games that are spinoffs of go side by side.
There used to be a Warhammer Fantasy Battle but that storyline closed off and Age of Sigmar took over.
Then there is Forgeworld which creates some of the larger scale models or units that are more specific and flavourful to certain factions and/or campaigns.
Another company owned by Games Workshop is Black Library, a publishing company. This company JUST publishes books about 40k, WFB, Age of Sigmar etc etc. Only about the universes of Warhammer and the like!
There are also magazines: The White Dwarf Magazine that shows articles, events, battle reports and sometimes a little bit of lore. Warhammer Monthly used to be a comic book that did serialized comic stories. Inferno magazine had short stories in the setting as well.
Then in more recent years, PC games started coming out!
Strategy games like:
Dawn of War 1, 2 and 3 each with many expansions.
Space Hulk Tactics
Hack and Slash games like:
Space Marine
Vermintide
Darktide
RPG games like:
Warhammer 40,000 Inquisator - Martyr
And many more!
There are also movies... one of their first ones was just terrible... I dare not even speak its name! But later on they launched a channel that was almost like a Disney + for Warhammer called HammerTV! More Awesome stories!
On top of that this universe was created to allow players a MASSIVE amount of personal freedom that would allow them to create their own armies or stories happening somewhere in a massive galaxy filled with uncounted worlds! It literally allows you to create your won heraldry and backstory.
