Hello again! I'm back, and I'm still just as clueless as ever. Surprise, surprise!
It's been a hot minute since I last shared anything. What have I been up to? Plenty!
First things first, I finally finished splitting all the files. The thighs are 8 pieces, shins are 4, the helmet is 8, and the chest is 14! Holy crap!
I printed one bicep as a test, just to see how things fit.
I dunno about you, but I think it feels a little large. It probably is, but only at the top of the bicep. The bottom part fits just fine. I'll have to figure out how to attach it better when I finally prime and paint it.
I also want to point out what happens when your printer runs out of filament in the middle of the print. Yeah... That happened... I had to reprint the butt plate a second time as a result!
Remember how I mentioned the chest is in 14 pieces? Yeah, that seemed like something worth printing now to get it finished. Each of these parts need to be glued together. And that's a challenge all its own!
I don't like using superglue here, because it's too easy to screw it up and glue the piece to your hands. I also need some play as I set it up, so I can make sure everything aligns properly. So no superglue. Regular PVA glue takes too long to harden, so that's also out.
So what's the solution? This!
I take a soldering iron and melt the plastic together! That way, I can set some PVA glue in between, and use the welded plastic to hold it together until it fully sets up. This also means I need to be super careful while making those first welds, because there's no going back after I place that weld.
I'm almost ready to start painting some of the parts while others print. I can't wait! Look forward to more posts from me on this soon. Have a great weekend, I'll see you around!
