Like! You don't just have an idea how many times I have sworn for my hair, sometimes I wanna curse my hair type but then I realize how many more loves and want my kind of hair.
Though its shrinkage level is on a very high side but the thickness alone is out of this world.
Some love my hair for just being type 4C, while others love it for its thickness and fullness, and the other few love it for the darkness (at this point I usually laugh at them and tell them they haven't really seen dark hair, wait until you meet my sister's hair)
As for the thickness and fullness, seems it's genetic, all my siblings have thick and full hair including my brothers😁 you needed to see my immediate brother's hair when he was just a baby, and I was like, how on earth would a guy possess such full and curly hair? And guess what? My sister too had soft and curly hair from birth, I was the only one with strong yet thicker hair, which makes it very painful to braid, and at the time I was younger, I disliked braiding my hair cause of the thought of withstanding the pains.
I had to cut my hair severally when I was younger, when girls my age were braiding their hair, I was always on a low cut. Cutting my hair 24/7 round the clock. I did envy and admire girls with braids but I just didn't have an option as my type of hair was very painful to braid, and I just couldn't endure the pains of braiding at that age, because of that I waited until I got a little bit older when I could decide on what I wanted and endured the pains and challenges that come with braiding.
I had to start braiding again after high school. Surprised? Well, you should be, it was that bad, and apart from the fact that my type of hair was quite painful to braid, my high school didn't allow or permit braiding so we were always on our low cut. To them, braiding was a distraction to our studies and it has always been that way here in my country for most federal schools except one is schooling in a private institution where you have the freedom and liberty to do just anything you want, while some of those private institutions have their style and pattern of hair student should make.
Hair Type?
So back to my hair, I have type 4C hair, and if you don't know about your hair type, why not google it and be sure, this helps you to know what is good and what is not good for your hair. The truth is that most treatments or oil we use for our hair might not really work for us because of our hair type. Hair type differs in texture, porosity, and lots more, so you should discover what type your hair is.
Well, for my type of hair? Type 4C, here are some features of the hair;
- 4C hair tangles & locks easily. (this explains why my natural braid last longer)
- It has lots of shrinkages when wet. (on a very high side)
- It feels very dry and breaks easily. (don't remind me🥺)
- 4C hair soaks up conditioners & oils quickly holds natural styles very well. (Very true)
- Ability to retain water is very low (my hair never retains water)
There are many more characteristics of the 4C type of hair but I just listed a few.
Now if you have experienced the few things I have mentioned here, then welcome to the family, your hair type is proudly sponsored by 4C😄😅
Lately, I've noticed that my hair is now growing at a very low or slow rate, not growing rapidly as it did a year ago. Yes! My hair is just two (2) years old but I feel it should do more, my thinking though. My friends think my hair is doing much better than most of the hair they have seen which is more years older than mine. But I am not happy with its growth rate.
Do you know the saying that the crown of a lady is her hair? oh you think that was a joke or mere saying? No, it isn't, our hair is actually our crown, the visible crown. So any lady would do anything to take good care of her hair and the nature of your hair determines how well any braid would fit, and how well your face will be perfectly shaped.
Not all braids are good for all types of hair, even the stylists will tell you this.
Today a model is not just flaunting her hair type, she is reminding you that even a lady model needs her crown to look all good to be confident and comfortable in her looks and poses. Taking care of your hair as a lady is honoring your crown.
You cant be modeling with an all scattered and bushy-looking hair not well taken care of.
I don't know about your natural hair treatments and I haven't really used a lot on my hair either, but recently, a friend of mine recommended these three products for my type of hair. She said it could help or work better, especially in the terms of softening my hair and keeping it moisturized.
She told me where I could get them and the following day I went to the mall; the hair cream and body lotion section to fetch the products and try on my hair, I hope this works for my hair cause my hair type can be so annoying at times.
After getting those products, I washed my hair as directed and applied them, mind you it's just once I have used them, I got them on Tuesday and I will be using them to see the result cause to be very honest, my hair is cutting really badly and it makes me very sad that I am beginning to lose my hair thickness and fullness.
I will show you the photos of my hair last year when it was just a year old and this year when it started cutting and making me lose my hair thickness
PS: The photos above are this year's (2022) hair growth level while those below are last year's (2021)
2021 Hair Photo Session
And if I am to compare this to my hair now, I think last year's growth was massive and much better, my sad hair story. Well, at some point this happens to every lady out there, we know this. It gets to a point our hair stops growing rapidly as it used to, we don't have to panic when such occurs, we just have to watch It calmly and still take proper care of our hair and scalp, very important.
So many factors contributed to my hair loss but right now I am taking proper care of my hair. This is my crown so I have to honor it and care for it too as much as I can.
How about you? How do you take good care of your hair as a model? As this could also be your selling point in your industry.
Still your baby girl ;)
To my faithful readers and wonderful sponsors, my heart goes out to you guys. Thank you for making my journey here a fun-filled and exciting one. Thanks for trusting and supporting my work too. I pray that God bless you all real good :)
