Hello all fungi lovers, #TGIF. Hope you are having fun while hunting fungi. Well I've been caught in the wave of fungi hunting such that when I see a farm, bush or soft moist tree trunks, my eyes will be in search for fungi in them.😅
Since the last time I posted, I've been unable to find some fungi but luckily I caught some few days ago, precisely on Monday.
So I had visited this waterleaf farm to see how they were doing and on getting to this spot, I saw these beautiful looking mushrooms beckoning me to come take shots of them.
I was happy because not only have I seen mushrooms for my blog post, they will also be having a nice hot swimming in my soup over the weekend but on a closer look, I noticed that they were actually non-edible mushrooms. Oh how disappointing but I'm glad I could at least use them for my blog post, and here they are 👇
These types of non-edible mushrooms are usually whitish in color, soft and scatters easily.
One notable thing about this type of mushroom is that they spoil easily after sprouting very well. When this happens, the color begin to turn brownish until they die off.
Just like edible mushrooms, non edible mushrooms usually grow in dry but moist tree trunks, logs, moss, forest grounds etc.
Things to know about non edible mushrooms
Non edible mushrooms are poisonous and if mistakenly eaten, can cause great harm to the body.
Always be sure of type of mushrooms before picking them.Do not pick mushroom with red color on their cap or stem.
If a mushroom has lighter or darker shade like spots, patches or scales on the cap, there's every possibility that it's poisonous.
Mushrooms with white gills, a ring on the stem and sack like base are possibly non edible types and should be avoided.
Like I said before, while foraging be on the lookout for poisonous mushrooms and steer clear of them, and if mistakenly eaten note the symptoms and seek medical attention asap.
