We all know how important fungi are on our planet Earth. Basically, they have the main role in the decomposing phase of all terrestrial ecosystems. Even if you don't see them, they are all around, doing their job, to perfection. Nothing can stop them. None of us. Just think, don't we encounter fungus on the forgotten piece of cheese in the freeze? Don't we find them in the walls of dark rooms, where the humidity is high? Don't we even consume them as yeasts through bread or beer? They are all around, so we can call ourselves lucky ones when Friday comes and we want to find some nice mushrooms and bring them to the #FungiFriday event. Nothing easier! You can find them everywhere, BUT, I will now bring some places where you should NOT try to search for them. This is where I was searching for them this morning, well almost noon, and so much sun and warmth accompanied me. However, it was worth taking this route by my bike, to make this list, all just to help you what places you should avoid. Everywhere else, out of my list is a good-to-go spot.
Ok, so let's start.
Harbour
The harbour was so calm today, the fishing boats have already returned a while ago, and the fish has been distributed among the small local fishmongers. Only a few people remained, who came to enjoy their small boats because the weekend is coming. Blue sky, calm sea, everything is perfect, but you know what? You won't find mushrooms there. I tried. Just boats swinging peacefully on very gentle waves. If you can, skip this place in your mushroom hunt.
Zero Zero Bar
I drove by this bar, or restaurant, not really sure what it is. Let my bike aside, came closer and saw a few guests enjoying their drinks and the breeze. Enjoying the beautiful views towards the sea, as it is exactly where it is situated, by the seashore. However, no trace of mushrooms on the menu, or in the drinks offer. I guess the Zero in the name of it means zero fungi of Fridays... and zero squared is still zero, so to be repeated, zero zero mushrooms you would find here. Skip it too...
Promenade
No, no and no. No need to go there, believe me. You can think some tiny mushrooms can hide there, in those bushes that are decorating the side of the promenade, but all that effort to try to find them would be in vain. Don't think you can find them on the beach either. (although proved the opposite, finding some of them in the sand, on a beach). The Spanish fungi don't like the sun, the pebbles and sand combination and all those people that go there to sunbathe and swim. Seems that the mushrooms are shyer and the beach, seashore, or any place close to it is a forbidden place in their own mushroom laws.
Dry Riverbed
Actually, there are already more chances you can find mushrooms by a river, or in the river bed, which is right now without water. We call it dry, as usually there is no water in it, it serves just to channel the excess water when it is raining too much. We see here a lot of greenery, mainly palm trees and shrubs, flowers and grass that is freely growing where it wants. A super place for mushrooms - we all can think that. But how wrong we are then! Not even one small mushroom was found by me in this whole area... and the riverbed passes through the whole town! Zero also for this place. Don't waste your time, don't hunt for them here today!
Supermarket
Ok! I do have a package of mushrooms in my hand, but this doesn't count! They are wrapped in plastic and no real challenge in searching for them. As they are already served like this, it's not exciting. I put it back and went for some broccoli (😁). So, the supermarket gets a big cross ❌ in our list... this is NOT a place you can have fun while searching for them. Just skip, please.
I almost gave up and enjoyed just my biking time. A bit too warm for a middle-of-October day, too much sun and summer vibes don't make a good background for an activity so well-known in autumn. They claim the best time to find mushrooms in the woods is this month, and I found none (just forget the fact that I was not in any forest but in an urban area). I felt betrayed and almost sad thoughts started to leak in my happy state... until... until I saw the next shop window!
Autumn scene and MUSHROOMS!
Is it for real?
Do I dream?
It's Friday and they came to a shop window to bring me a smile! And not just mushrooms but a cute squirrel, all patiently looking out to the street, from this cosy boutique.
Also, between the displayed clothes, more mushrooms greeted us today. Should I change my list, and add in the end one place where you can maybe have the luck to find fungi? A window shop?
Well, I am pretty sure the rest of the people will find some real mushrooms in some normal places, all those places, ie everywhere else, just not those that are on my list, and no need for this little trick. This post is anyways just a product of having fun, but still, an entry for the #FungiFriday thingy, held by :))
{will you kick me out of the community because of this post?}
