Here are a few obscure finds for this #fungifriday by
Here is Russula decolorans which is a decent edible and somewhat common. I usually only find one or two, never quite enough for a meal though.
These guys tend to spring up fast and rot fast so you have to go out after every rain to check for them. The taste isn't too special and very mild, I rarely collect it as sometimes the color is not quite orange enough and it ends up being a gross tasting brown russula.
Here is a somewhat plain mushroom from the top, just light and brownish and small. It is what mushroom hunters would call an LBM little brown mushroom.
Whenever I see something plain like this I flip it over to check the gill pattern. This one gave me a surprise bit of orange color underneath. So far I have had no luck with identifying this little guy. Odds are even if I do find the ID it will not have any edibility information with it.
I thought this guy might be a field mushroom A. campestris because of the scaled cap.
But once I flipped it over the gills were white instead of pink or brown. The closest thing it reminds me of is Pholiota squarrosa but those tend to grow in groups out of dead wood. This guy was found growing out of the ground by itself so it remains unidentified.
Here is another LBM that is more closer to the orange velvety side of the color spectrum. There were quite a few small ones near the larger one.
I flipped it over and looked at the gills for any clues but alas it is a typical pattern. It kind of reminds me of waxycaps Hygrocybe miniata but those are not velvety and are more waxy as their common name implies. I have yet to ID these little guys.
I think this is Tyromyces chioneus aka White Cheese Polypore. They aren't really edible but might have a slight bit of medicinal properties as they contain sesquiterpene which is used in Anti-HIV drugs.
Now for some typical white button mushrooms getting destroyed by my daughter. We got her these plastic learning knives because she loves watching my wife cooking stuff in the kitchen. So now she can help with various mushroom meals since these are one of the few things these plastic knives can actually cut.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
