I went for a run this morning and followed it up with a bit of mushroom hunting. The woodland is so lush right now, though the grounds were a little dry.
We've just had the driest spring on record since 1950, and that might explain why my usual mushroom spots have been so quiet this season.
But this morning, I had a little surprise.
A tiny mushroom called warty knight popped up, not in the woods, but right alongside my spring onions!
I water my spring onions every day, and the combination of damp soil and sunshine made this little one sprout.
I spoiled it with attention.
This mushroom has a warty stem and scaly cap, hence it is called the warty knight.
It’s funny how, when we have plenty, we often overlook the small ones. But when nothing shows up, even the tiniest mushroom feels special.
Short and sweet today.
Wishing you all a happy Fungi Friday!
