Dusshera is one of the famous festival of India. The day is associated with mytholohical story of Ram and Ravana and considered to be the day when lord Rama triumphed over the devon king Ravana. It is one of the most important festivals in India, celebrating the triumph of good over evil. Dusshera is celebrated on the last day I.e 10th day of Durga Puja. So it becomes a special ocassion for Indian in many way. Each people have their own way of celebration, either they manage to arrange a party, or visit a shopping mall, or big restaurant or some other way of entertainment to celebrate the ocassion. But when it comes to rural people, they have only one place to gather for their enteryainment and that is Village Fair Which is kind of Annual event.
Today being the same ocassion, I manage to sneak into our village fair in the afternoon with rest of the family kids. It is easier to be on the fair ground so early to be safe from rush. The place which looks to so empty will be overcrowded after 5.00PM.
This fair is being organised at the same ground for the last so many decades. This is the only big fair to be held in the region covering more than 25 km of radius. So getting overcrowded is the only option as people from not my village buy also from far off places visits here to attend. They don't comes alone here but we're accompanied with their family members. By the time we left the ground, it already stated to get crowded with people rushing in the ground to entertain themselves.
Being an annual event that comes once in a year, people from all walk of the life rush in to the fair ground to enjoy their life. They do not have any other option apart from this fair. Literally, the place is out of reach for common people in the evening as it would get near impossible to even enter the ground. The place will turn into hell with crowds trying to play games, enjoy rides, or eat some snacks. This ground has everything for all the people. While they have the favourite Mackey Mouse hopping stage air Ballon for the kids, they have swings as well.
The most crowded places in the fair are the gol gappe counter. There were so many of them on the ground. This is one of the most selling snacks item on the street. People of all ages like it. gol-gappe is a crispy balls which were filled with mashed potato or chik-peas and the added Tangy - Chilli water and served to the customer.
You can expect how much this one is liked by the amount of crispy balls in the vendor counter. He going to sell all of them by the end of the day. This is only one counter. There were around 10-15 such counters around the ground. That is why I said that this is the biggest attraction of the fair..
There were also many hawkers selling other items. While there were wooden flute seller, we have toy seller too. The guy was little shy while I was snapping him.
There were other eatables items too, chowing, egg fry, ice cream are few to name.
Apart from kids play zone to toy vendor to, eating joint. The fair also accomodate somethings for the adults too. There were bigger swings too that elder people can enjoy too. Here are some of the picture, that I brought up for today celebration.
I manage to click all these picture sasily, because I went there at 3.00 PM. It is matter of hour that the place would turned into overcrowded zone. There were so much rush that if was hard for people to walk and also to breathe. I was lucky to get inside in time and arrange few rides for our family kids.
I was unaware of such lifestyle until few years ago. But since I am residing here, so being part of it makes me bit nostalgic. But I have not seen such things in towns and big cities. There were few such event, but I never been part of them. But looking at village lifestyle, and the way how easily people entertain themselves with the annual fair. They lead a very simple.life and enjoy everything that comes along.
Happy I able to snapped so many images for my record. Hope you enjoy the little festival mania from the usual theme.
