This story, like many are, is a long time in the making. In fact it is well over a year since I was fortunate enough to meet the team at the Northern Cobbler a high end shoe store that had diversified into supplying quality coffee to their in store clients.
Why they came to me is the coffee business had become such a big part of the revenue they wished to expand on it by purchasing a roaster and roasting their own quality coffee to go alongside the amazing shoes. We roasted coffee and discussed the machine which they felt was ideal for their needs.
But their city centre store could not accomodate a roaster, and while they arranged a suitable rural unit for the roaster they wanted to kick start their retail coffee offering - so it became quite fortunate they were looking to purchase a coffee roaster off someone who roasts coffee.
It might have taken a long time, but the location they found in the end is stunning - combining on the left a boutique coffee and pastry bar separated internally by an all glass partition so you can sip your flat white while watching them roast coffee.
And what a machine to watch roasting the coffee, Toper the manufacturer of the roasters normally trim the front cooling tray, middle drum and top green coffee hopper in either Chrome, Brass or Copper.
But the Northern Cobbler wanted a specific design to match their brand, a specific RAL white bottom and matt black top. And the specific RAL white had to follow on the accessories destoner and grinder with table. I asked Toper if they could do it for my customer - not only could they do what I affectionately call the "chrome delete" roaster - they did it at no extra charge!
All respect to Northern Cobbler it is a stunning looking piece of equipment, a really inspired choice of colour and look they even got their logo on the roaster drum.
