The festive cups are back fam!
Last year I did a bunch of posts about festive coffee cups in different coffee shops in the city. I noticed today that McDonalds has released this year's festive cup design and I have to say I kind of like it.
It's a lot more "Christmassy" this year than it was last year with a lot of elements referencing either the winter season, or Christmas itself. They've gone for a simple two-colour scheme with a lot of white space. The white space gives the design a nice fresh look that I like very much.
In terms of art elements, the cup features a penguin, a candy cane, a sledge, party poppers, ribbons, decoration lights, a fireplace with socks, decorative snowflakes, coffee beans, candles a party cap, a crystal globe with a snowy cottage scene and itself - a coffee cup (which is quite meta).
What I like the most about this cup is it reminds me of my own art. I draw, or used to draw, quite a lot and I'd doodle things like this all day on white paper using an ink pen. Sometimes I'd colour them in simple plain colours like this cup. This sort of artwork is very familiar to me.
As it happens, I haven't noticed any of the other shops' festive cups yet, if they have it, but I'll be looking out for them over the coming days. I can't wait to see what Starbucks has done this year. They are often quite good with the design. I hope they've gone for a proper Christmas based design like MacDonalds has this year.
If you're interested, this was MacDonald's design last year.
Peace & Love,
Adé
