Simply Organique
GOOD COFFEE, HIPSTER DÉCORE
I mentioned in this post that Finsbury Park touches different north London postcodes. I entered the park from the Manor House gate, but not before sitting down for a sip of coffee at Simply Organique. It had coffee there with a friend nearly five years ago, and had a good experience, so I decided to pop in for an Americano.
It's right next to "Evergreen express", which is some kind of organic grocery store. The shops have the same colour scheme and similar theme, so I assume they might be related some way. The coffee shop itself sells organic produce, hence the name, on the ground floor. The sitting area is up a flight of stairs, on a mezzanine overlooking the ground floor.
There's not a lot space - there are seats for about 10 people up there. I, being about 6'3" tall, am unable to stand up straight up there. Most people under 6 feet tall should be just fine. Tall people problems eh? I like the interior design of the place. It has a faux old house feel to it, complete with bookshelf effect wallpaper.
The vibe in there is as expected - calm and relaxed, despite being located on a very noisy junction between Green Lanes and Seven Sisters Road - two of the largest roads in North and East London. It's a kind of cafe that will be right at home in nearby Islington or Shoreditch. That is to say, it's quite hipster.
The coffee tasted good, even though not earth shattering or life-changing in any way. It tasted quite good, just like the previous time I was there. Mind you, my exceptions are always raised when I see words like "artisan" or "organic" associated with coffee. I bet if I had this coffee at McDonalds or a supermarket cafe, I'd be blown away by how good it is. In this setting though, not so much. Nevertheless, it was good coffee.
