The coffee plunger, alternatively known as the French press/cafetière à piston has 3 functions (possibly even more with new innovation)
- Brewing & Filtering coffee grounds from the infused water.
- Milk frothing & texturing
- Brewing of loose tea.
Brewing of loose tea
The french press can effectively replace a tea infuser, but there are a couple of cons to it.
This is only suitable for lighter teas that do not require a long brew time.
Loose tea happens to be very fine, thus brewing for too long may result in a bitter tasting tea.
Milk Frothing & Texturing
The french press is capable of pumping air into milk, this results in the milk doubling in volume.
The rubber at the bottom of the glassware will allow you to tap the milk. Tapping is the process of popping large air bubbles to ensure for a smooth textured milk. This is done by knocking the milk on a counter/ surface. 2
